My kids are 5 and 3 and love the How to Build A series books. We first got How to Build a Car and now have 4 of these books. They have pretty technical step by step instructions on How to Build whatever the particular book is building, but there is story with familiar characters woven throughout that young children can identify with. Highly recommend!

This is great for kids and adults with no experience with motorcycles. It provides good, basic information and, with adults, should stimulate interest in more technical information. Well presented for kids in the 8 to 12 age group.

I ordered this for my friends 3 year old daughter. I want to order another copy for myself, it's delightful, and has a ton of great information!

Nice illustrations. The story is a bit clumsy, but it's good fun.

This book covered the Qualcom Brew Platform very well and the sequence of steps it takes to develop apps for Qualcom phones very badly. The programming guides were not good enough to take a beginner to the development of even simple applications.The only positive thing this text did for me was to support the decision to recommend that my company pick another application development platform for their custom mobile apps. If someone wanted to create a development environment to discourage use--this is it!The book was well worth the money spent to assure me that this was where we didn't want to be. Sometimes knowing what NOT to do is every bit as important as knowing what to do.

Rischpater's book is an excellent introduction, reviewing both the existing documentation and the various gotchas you're likely to run into when starting BREW development. He organizes the work by the kinds of things you're likely to do (gui, network, etc.), making it easy to start reading the book, get comfortable with the tools and Ray's style, and then skip to things that relate to the application you're trying to write.Especially helpful is Ray's inclusion not just of sample code, but of an empty sample application which is powerful enough to be the basis of a complete application. Not simply a "Hello World", I use this starting point now any time I work with BREW, both when trying things out and when actually building a real application.It's a good complement to Barbagallo's book, especially if you're not writing games. I have both, and look at Rischpater's more often now that I've read both.

I bought this with the intent of reading it later.. but, just wanted to read a bit of it so I could figure out when to read it. Before I knew it.. I'd read the whole book. lmao. It was a very fast read. Easily finished it before I went to bed. I started it around two PM. I had to keep reading it as I was positive I'd figured out the ending. Good grief.. I could not have been more wrong! The ending TOTALLY shocked me. I won't write a spoiler.. but, I love how the author finished the book. Your heart just goes out to the main character and his son. The characters were extremely well crafted and they become totally "fleshed" out over the course of the book.One can easily see how the claim that so many folks from the same area had all received phone calls from "heaven" from their loved ones.. would put every person out there on the path to a little town in the middle of no where.. in hopes that they too.. could speak with their loved ones who have crossed over.This book is not religious. I think that was the biggest surprise. It's about what may lay on the "other" side.. but, takes no mankind fixed religion over any other. It's inspirational without being preachy. Totally enjoyed it. In some ways.. It brought it's own comfort. And, any book that can do that.. is one that deserves an audience!

About the Author

Francis C. (Frank) Dane received a B.S. in psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Kansas. His advisor was Larry Wrightsman, and he has certainly followed in Dr. Wrightsman’s footsteps in terms of staying active in publishing and doing research. He started as Assistant Professor of Psychology at State University of New yYork in Oswego, New York from 1979 to 1983. He moved to Clemson University in South Carolina from 1983 to 1988, where he was promoted to Associate Professor of Psychology, and then moved to Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, where he was Associate Professor and Department Chair of Psychology. He stayed at Mercer as the William Heard Kilpatrick Professor of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts and as Professor of Internal Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine until 2002. He then became the inaugural James V. Finkbeiner Endowed Chair of Ethics and Public Policy in the College of Arts and Behavioral Sciences at Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, Michigan, until 2010, after which he accepted his current position, Chair of Arts & Sciences at Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, Virginia. Seriously? Why do these professors put students through this torture? This textbook is torture. I could barely understand what the author was saying.

It is a relatively easy to read version of how to evaluate Resarch

Dane does not clearly explain terminology, the book is laid out so that you consistently have to flip back and forth to look at the figure that goes with a description, he uses diagrams with the same information, but on some pages, it's laid out with a vertical orientation, and other times (for no particular reason) it's in a horizontal orientation.He is inconsistent about providing recognizable formulae. Theoretically, he's helping you recognize types of analysis, but with anything more complex, he just basically says "well, that's too complicated for you. If you're not the dullard I think you are, go look for another book on statistics." You don't get to insult my intelligence if you cannot explain the basics of a concept common to the subject you're purporting to educate me about.There's more, but I think that gives enough to decide whether you want to take the good with the salt in this book.

This book is helpful for my courses that I'm taking now.

I had to buy this book for class. I am interested in psychology and I credit the author for making this book pretty enjoyable when the subject is so boring and dry. The book is even funny at parts. I purchased the Kindle version of the book so that I could search through it faster, highlight the key terms, and add notes without having to get a pen or highlighter. I praise the publisher for making this book available on Kindle in order to make all of that possible. However, I would like to warn others that the Kindle version of this book is incomplete! I have read a good portion of the text and there are parts where it just stops mid-sentence and goes on to a new paragraph. I have no idea how much is actually missing, but my guess is (hopefully) just a few words here and there. I write this review in an effort to urge Amazon to review this product in order to correct this mistake.I will give an example from the book:"The more you think about what you are reading, and the more you pay attention to what others have written about what they read-good or bad- the more your reading will *Next Paragraph* The SQ3R method of reading..."I liked the book, like I said, but if you have to purchase it for school or even for casual reading, avoid the Kindle version.

A practical, relatively easy to read book, with fresh, thought-provoking information relative to research. That said, the concepts are challenging. It's not a book you can 'speed read' through. You'll have to slow down and ruminate on the material. At times, you may smell something burning, then realize it's the smoke coming out your ears.

I originally bought this for my nephews, who have a fascination with dragons and such at the moment. It's definitely a result of the Harry Potter phenomenon, but the similarity ends at its "magical" quality. Its intent is the opening of minds to the hidden worlds of the imagination, and a rekindling of young peoples' interests in areas of mythology and classic literature. Supposedly the work of the last dragonmaster, the book aims to dispel the myths on dragons, recalling Hagrid's comments that they are "very misunderstood creatures". While Dragonology has lots of bells and whistles and moving parts, this is, as it says, more a handbook, and not as fun as its predecessor. It is great for stimulating the imagination of children (of all ages, apparently), but it's a slightly more involved text than Dragonology, and therefore likely to appeal to children 10+. It's artwork and some of its content appears based on The Flight of Dragons, by Peter Dickinson, upon which Discovery's Dragon's World DVD was also based. Both of these are great additions to this book, if you can get them.

I got this and several others in the series for my dragon-loving daughter and the quality was impressive! A LOT of thought and work was put into the creation and there are tons of little surprises tucked in throughout the books. I would absolutely recommend any of these books for anyone who loves dragons!

My childhood favorite book. Well written, very cool, makes you feel like you're holding a secret, exclusive tome for elite dragonologists. Has cute sticker sheets in the back that I never knew about because I borrowed this from a library all the time.

Movies and books on magical things have been so prevalent for young people, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Dark Crystal, etc. Kids love 'em. This field guide to Dragon types is pure fun for the young, and the young at heart. Illustrations are great. The author has researched the myths and legends thoroughly. Not only intriguing for the young, but a nice coffee table book for a favorite friend.

Superb book. It is well bound with heavy weight pages. Good blend of words and graphics for a young reader to not be overwhelmed. My grandson is thrilled with the dragon art and info. Great purchase.

Wulfram Gerstner is Director of the Laboratory of Computational Neuroscience and a Professor of Life Sciences and Computer Science at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. So far this book reads in a structural format. Though I must admit that shortcuts taken during explanation really complicate things. Let's take some time to address how formulas are meant to be used. In mathematics, calculus, even apple counting formulas simplify the work taken during figuring up certain values. These things are thus shortcuts to establishing something needed at that time. This book's author must think that concepts or even arguments are better expressed as apples in a bucket. I however would rather read something more vivid, established, even thorough. So if you like books that appear to be stabbed by the formula knives then this book would work. Else, I would not recommend this work.
