It's pretty Christian. I was given Carter's book "The Anger Trap" by my wife and it was if he had listened in on every argument and conversation we have had--I cannot recommend that book enough and revisit it often. But, because I was having trouble actually controlling my anger (as opposed to understanding it) I thought a workbook would help. It did.The workbook is not at all like his "Anger Trap", though.It talks to you like you're an idiot. Whereas "The Anger Trap" felt pretty in-depth in its analysis of how anger works and manifests itself, and the case studies were approachable yet realistic, the workbook offers one-dimensional characters. I think they do this so you can focus on that specific element of anger, but it is a bit off-putting at the start. Be warned.It's also very Christian. Others have noted that the use of scripture is not always relevant to the step, and I agree. In "The Anger Trap" the references are minimal. Having some familiarity with 12 step I see and agree with the need to recognize a "higher power", if only to recognize that we can control some things and not others. Carter uses a Christian one while you might use "fate" or some-such. Fine, but here they are used to such a prominent degree that it feels like proselytizing. If a) "The Anger Trap" hadn't been so good, and b) I didn't need something I'd probably have passed on this. If this is a deal breaker--you can't get past all of that Charlie-Church stuff--it will be hard going for you here.Those things said, the book works. It feels slow (I want to be fixed NOW!) but that's to its advantage. The book makes you think about each element of what causes your anger and how to change that. The Christian bits, as annoying as they can be, raise some good points (that could easily be more secular) in accepting what you can and cannot change. If you pass, keep this book in mind if you don't solve your problems elsewhere.

This is a good book for working through understanding underlying anger issues. It does have a strong religious bent, so be prepare for that. If your beliefs are not the same as the author's beliefs, you can still garner very valuable information from this book. I found that this book also offers good information for working on one's assertiveness. There are lots of exercises to get you really thinking about how anger manifests in your life, and how you deal with it. It works you through developing and applying better ways to handle anger issues. It does reach back to attempt to help you understand the origin of your anger and what may really be bringing it about. This book is a thorough examination of issues of anger within yourself, and how you can better deal with it.

This is a worthwhile workbook. It clarifies 'anger' in its many forms . . . And I'm sure plenty of us don't even know we're dealing with anger issues. It is a must read. I like that its a hands on book . . . Asking specific questions for the reader to answer within space in the book. Yes, there is Christian basis, Biblical readings as a foundation but not rampant or insidious . . . just clarity how we should be dealing with feelings of being marginalized, not respected, ignored . . . rather how we can overcome these situations when they happen. I'm only about 4 chapters into this workbook. I'm taking it seriously, thinking and acting on the authors' suggestions . . . its actually kind of pertinent to this year's presidential race . . . and how/why people are feeling angry . . . what's really going on.

This book really makes you think. In my mind I am okay it's everyone else. I am over half way through and I can already see that I need to work on me. The more I read and complete the questions the more I am discovering what I can do to help me to understand what triggers my anger and how to defuse it.Don't just buy the book and say I am going to read and apply it. Do it.

This book is exactly what I needed. I work in a high stress environment and often find that my emotions boil over at home. My wife asked me to work on my anger issues and after much searching, I found this book. Spoiler alert, it is Christian based. This book helped me to understand my anger and work with it. I cannot express how much this book has changed my life, my work, and my relationship with friends and family. If you aren't sure if this book is for you, then read the preview Amazon provides. The first set of 25 questions may cause you to open your eyes a little bit more about anger.

I use this book in my counseling courses and my counseling practice. It is very easy to read with check lists and stories to uncover anger in a person's life. It can be used in groups or individually as an interactive workbook to help people identify anger issues and take positive steps to learn how to manage their anger.

Great book to read. I would recommend this book to anyone dealing with anger. I was recommended it by a therapist and I have loved it every step of the way. It does have Bible verses spread through out to help you cope better with anger and the disappointments of life that are guaranteed. You have fill in the banks and areas where you are to write longer passages about questions they ask. Very great author as he has written many other books as well. Definitely and A+ book.

Turn out its a faith -based book. Nothing wrong about that - in facts it's a good thing. We need more spirtualty. Trouble is - that is not where my anger clientd are-when first come in. Just label it so. Many might prefer a faith-based anger workbook.

About the Author

Ivor Horton is self-employed in consultancy and writes programming tutorials. He is the author of many programming books.  Ivor worked for IBM for many years and holds a bachelor's degree, with honors, in mathematics. Horton's experience at IBM includes programming in most languages (like assembler and high-level languages on a variety of machines), real-time programming, and designing and implementing real-time closed loop industrial control systems. He has extensive experience teaching programming to engineers and scientists (Fortran, PL/1, APL, etc.). Horton is an expert in mechanical, process, and electronic CAD systems; mechanical CAM systems; and DNC/CNC systems.Peter Van Weert is a Belgian software engineer whose main interests and expertise are application software development, programming languages, algorithms, and data structures. He received his master of science degree in computer science summa cum laude with congratulations of the Board of Examiners from the University of Leuven. In 2010, he completed his PhD thesis there on the design and efficient compilation of rule-based programming languages at the research group for declarative programming languages and artificial intelligence. During his doctoral studies, he was a teaching assistant for object-oriented programming (Java), software analysis and design, and declarative programming. If I may make a suggestion. Have started with Ivor Horton's "Beginning Visual C++ 2013" and bought this one to try to keep up with newer versions of C++, Many examples from the earlier version are used here. But for someone starting out on PC programing and wants to spread their learning to programing windows display using MFC I suggest also getting the earlier version as this edition will take you to the point of writing code in C++ but also displaying input output, on your monitor. The new version does not go beyond C++ programing.Hope this helps, If I did not have the experience of the early version I would not know what next book to continue with.PS: I have professionally programed other devices as in industrial PLC's and home automation controllers, etc. C++ has much, much more to learning to it. The other devices I could program in a few days, this is going to take months to get up and running.

Just started reading this book, I have sampled and started many other C++ books only to stop at some point. So far I think this book excels at covering meaty topics in a concise way, and has a practical bend with telling you how to do something with the very best strategy. I will come back and change my opinion if that changes, so far so good. I like that it is not filled with extra stuff, I want to learn C++ not some other topic which some of the C++ books introduce as a part of the examples, this happened on the equation parsing for Stroustrup book which irritated me in its incomplete treatment initially, but asked us to just think about it where of course I thought of all the complexity of the challenge, then I realized why am I doing this just to learn C++, so I got this book, very happy so far.

C++ has changed lots in the last 5 years or so. This book was great for getting me current once again. So if you have been away from the language for a while, and are looking at code saying, "What is lambda? What is a vector?", then this is the book for you.

It has all the necessary knowledge but without some personal trash talk (I don't like Bjarne Stroustroup style). This is important if you have to go through ~1000 page book.

I great book for someone new to c++ or just new to c++ 17. Easy to follow and lots of code examples. Read a lot of c++ books and this is one of the better ones.

What's with the weird formatting in the kindle edition? (check out all the question marks in the table of contents), plus some of the code formatting in chapter 1.
