I am not sure I agree with the Title... Casseroles is not a broad enough term to describethe many unusual takes on common foods.Baked Ravoili with homemade white sauce and crunchy herbed topping is on my list,along with Hearty Barley Casserole with Lamb... I will adapt to either chicken or beef,Easy Payoff Short Ribs, anyway, enough different and interesting recipes to justify this purchase.I have not found a can of mushroom soup in any of the ingredients yet.

I really wanted to like this book, but I've found it contains multiple errors. Cook times are off on so many recipes, I actually bought an oven thermometer because I thought my oven might be off. It wasn't. Tonight was the last straw. One recipe called for 3/4 cup of cream, then you are to add 2 tablespoons of it to 12 ramekins. 24 tablespoons is 1 1/2 cups, so now I'm wondering which instruction was right.Boo! Grocery shopping, cooking and washing up takes too much effort for recipes that are carelessly wrong.

This is one of my all-time favorite cookbooks. I have used it for pot lucks, for friends who are recuperating from illness, and for my own family. Every recipe is absolutely delicious! The flavors burst and unlike most other recipes, I rarely have to add extra seasonings. Even though all the recipes are "from scratch", most are not too complicated and take a minimal amount of effort. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to have easy one-pot meals that will surprise and impress others! I even use it for a Vegetarian gathering, as it has such a wide variety of recipes.

I love to read cookbooks, and enjoy Faith Durand's writing and recipes regularly on TheKitchn.com. Here, the warm comforts of a casserole are presented with real, nourishing food, cooked cozily in the oven without a single can of creamy soup. Quality, well-developed recipes worth trying and adding to the family rotation, though the book is a simple paperback and resists sitting open on the counter. I'm happy with the content, and the tasty results, just not the presentation.

I read the whole book, cover to cover and took all four of the practce tests, as well as read through the manual and took the practice test on the ETS website. I read the information over the course of 10 days. I only missed four questions on the test and got a 291. Now, please know that I am also a teacher with 11 years experience, so that really helped also. My advice is to take ALL of those tests in the back of the book, and know that they are harder than the real test. I only scored about 82% on them. Make sure that you go over the question twice on the real exam, and look very closely and think about all options. Good luck! I liked the book and will actually keep it as a reference tool. Yes, definitely some typos and out-dated infrmation, but it won't keep you from passing.

I found this book to be very helpful and full of useful material. I read the competency descriptions over a period of a few weeks and then I took the practice tests 2 days before my actual test. I found the types of questions to be more similar to the actual test than the other review book that I had purchased.

Thirty years ago,I used to cross the railway bridge at Kurla station in Bombay. There used to be a beggar girl sitting in the corner. She disappeared for a month, and when she returned, there was a hole where her eye used to be, and I could see right through to her skull.While I must say that this book is very well written, and well researched, I am not too sure about how to react to the book. To me, as an Indian, these are live, everyday stories. We see them all the time, and while I may be upper middle class, the lives of the poor and the rich impinge upon us. When I read a book like this, I feel that it is a SlumDog Millionaire of print.This is a book that has been written with a great deal of sympathy and this is good. This is probably a book for the Western world, and where the audience gasps with shock.To the reader, do read, but remember - this is India; where the poor jostle with the rest, where they laugh with each other, and where they glare at each other.

This is an exceptional book by any standard. Though it's a work of non-fiction, it reads like a novel, focusing as it does on real characters, their situations, and how they respond to them and to one another. As a result, one can't help but be drawn into their stories and to care deeply about what happens to the people one has come to know and worry about. The setting--a slum in Mumbai next to its modern airport--is vividly captured, as are the unique personalities of the inhabitants on which the book centers. Of course the book is heartbreaking in many ways, but it also inspires admiration for the way its people cope with their unjust and often desperate conditions. The book makes patently clear what it is like to live in a world that is fundamentally corrupt and fundamentally indifferent, in the process showing how misguided so many assumptions one might have about such a world actually are. Through it all a kind of harsh beauty shows through, partly because the writing in the book is itself so beautiful, and partly because the people display a kind of courage that is also beautiful. This is a book one will not soon forget. In its conception, in the research that went into it, and in the care with which it was written are all truly extraordinary. It deserves all the many awards it has received, and our attention both as readers and as human beings.

This is a wonderful book; very engrossing and amazing accounts of actual people living in Mumbai slums. There is video embedded throughout the book but unfortunately I did not realize this and downloaded it to my Kindle and was unable to view the video. Even without the video, it is an amazing book. If you were intrigued by Slumdog Millionaire, you will resonate to this book. Not a happy story but an important one - well told.

This book shows poverty in the very basic form. It was not an easy book to read, due to the content, but Katherine Boo did an excellent job. If I walked away with one thing it was that hope is basic in the lives of most humans living in such poverty. When basic needs are not met, all that seems to be left is existence, yet hope still seems to persist.The lack of things I take for granted, were present on each page. Clean water, abundant food, a warm home when needed and a cool one also, a bed to sleep in, free education for children, excellent medical care, this list could go on and on. As the world reaches out to those in poverty, can we not find a way to help preserve the dignity of those we help? Education lifts a person out of poverty, it must be made available to all children so they have a chance at a better life. Does anyone have the answers as to how we can deal with what needs to be done to lift them out of this cycle and meet their daily needs, and give them a better life?

Four stars - not because I like the subject and enjoyed reading this book - but because of the writing. This is a painful book to read and brings forth much to think about. Katherine Boo writes about several individuals living in a "smaller" slum on the outskirts of the Mumbai Airport. She follows these same individuals over the course of several years. What I love about her writing - she does not judge - she just reports as matter of fact. Personally, I don't know how one would keep a sense of hope waking up day after day and having to deal with surviving in this environment. This is a depressing book but one I recommend to anyone who is interested in nonfiction that is well written and will have an effect on you. Greed reaches far and wide and unfortunately, drives much of what happens in our world. We are all affected.

The author demonstrates a refined skill in story-telling. The subjects of this journal of her experience in India reveal people young and old who not only are incredibly interesting but people who easily engage the heart. The contrasts between the have's and have-nots are stark. The tensions encountered with so many people living at close quarters and the seemingly insurmountable obstacles imposed by a unforgiving economy would seem to breed despair. On the contrary, Katherine Boo shines a light on the people and places that nurture hope, activities that strengthen bonds of affection, and people who can inspire. I hope she will continue to write about what she has seen, heard, witnessed and shared - it widens the angle on which we view life.

The author has an unusual writing style that didn't really work for me. The story jumps around from person to person. The only thing that kept me reading was to find out the outcome of the trial, but it is not a compelling story. If I had not visited India last year I probably would not have bothered.

This story offers compelling insights into the devastating effects of inequality and poverty in India and this world. It illustrates how the wealth & comfort of the few is built upon the misery of the many and calls to the mind and heart to recognize the unacceptability of that fact

I was among the first students in his debut class in quantum chemistry back in the late 1960's. We used the zeroth edition of this book as it was being written, delivered to the students - in mimeograph form - one chapter at a time by Prof. Levine. As a hobby, I've purchased and read subsequent editions over the years even though my professional career took me into engineering rather than theoretical chemistry.The book has remained at the pinnacle of QC texts for advanced undergraduate, graduate, and self-study use. This 7th edition is no exception. Here's why: (1) it covers the necessary background mathematics in an integrated, as-needed manner, (2) all topics are treated with an appropriate "goldilocks" degree of rigor, neither overly formalized nor overly simplified, (3) the text is supplemented by excellent - sometimes quite challenging - problem sets, (4) numerous footnotes to the literature are given throughout the book for students who want to chase down subtle points, and (5) modern topics in QC, such as computational electron-correlation and molecular dynamics methods, are fully discussed. Overall, the text is written with great clarity and precision.This is not a textbook of quantum physics generally, but of quantum chemistry specifically. There are the obligatory explanations about the counter-intuitive nature of quantum mechanics along with various historical digressions about the development of non-classical physics. But this is a chemistry book. And it's among the best.

Great price, but page 1 of chapter 1 is just ... not there. I’m worried there will be more missing pages. Get the hardcover if you can.

Levine's Quantum Chemistry is one of the best books to understand quantum chemistry. It provides a rigorous foundation for students pursuing a career in theoretical chemistry. Once a student finishes reading this book, he or she can quickly​ go to the more specialized books like Szabo and Ostlund's Modern Quantum Chemistry.

Book itself is excellent but when it arrived there was some pages wrinkled. Quality of the India Pearson printing is good but something happened during the delivery I believe, but because the price was amazingly low I'll endure. The other choice did cost over $200 which a bit too much for me.

I have gone through many books on quantum and this one is by far my favorite. The explanations are clear, derivations are concise, easy to follow and straightforward.

It uses quantum mechanics to explain the basis of chemistry. The math is typical of a book on this topic but it is explained one step at a time.

I wouldn't have been able to pass my P-chem class without this book, it was a life saver.

Terrific book for sophomore students in chemistry who are interested in theoretical work. Easy to catch up with and tons of fundamental knowledge to dig up.
