This book has two major flaws.First, Helzberg's "tips" are hardly insightful. That doesn't mean they are wrong, or flawed, though reasonable people would disagree about some of them. Instead, most suffer from being obvious. This would be acceptable, in my opinion, if this were a narrative of how he and his family and team built the company, which leads me to the second flaw: its structure. The book is structured as 80 "helpful hints," each roughly 3 to 5 pages long, making it extremely disjointed.If you're a college student studying business, or somebody embarking on an entrepreneurial venture without any experience, this book could prove useful. If you have any experience, however, you are unlikely to find it illuminating.

I buy used copies to keep this book in the hands of my entrepreneurs attending a course I teach in Kansas City called Business Edge. It's always a favorite because of the quick-read, practical advice from one of our hometown entrepreneur success stories.

If you're an entrepreneur-at any stage of the development of your business(es), you're hungry for the secrets of the successful trail blazers who have gone before you. The opportunity to learn from someone who built a strong enough business to sell to the legendary Warren Buffett would be particularly valuable. This book offers that coveted opportunity.The author did not build his business all by himself. His father and grandfather preceded him in building the three-generation family business of 143 retail jewelry stores in 23 states. A well-led executive team made it all work beautifully. Helzberg Diamonds set the standard for customer service, earning the loyalty of thousands of customers who contributed to the success of the enterprise.Helzberg starts his book by telling us that he's a plagiarist. Quotes from a wide range of gurus, mentors, and leaders, offer an additional dose of thought-provoking and inspiring words.The book is easy for busy entrepreneurs to read. The chapters are short enough to absorb during a break-coffee, bathroom, or deep breath-and tightly written enough so you can glean the concepts quickly. A list of recommended readings and an index add value to the volume. The only feature that might have improved this treasure would be a complete listing in one place of all Helzberg's "Mining for Diamonds" advice. Too bad, you'll have to go through the book chapter by chapter to mine those gems for yourself. The experience will be worthwhile...and probably repeated a few times to gain the full impact of this down-to-earth, almost homespun, recipe book for entrepreneurial success.

On page 9, "Every activity you undertake exacts the price of not being able to pursue alternative activities... Thus the cost of putting out fires where fires exist and putting fingers in dikes where leaks exist is extremely high in the sense of decreased progress or missed opportunities." My wish is that this book is read by people who can't see that there is a human being behind each displaced person. That there is a story behind every life. That we all want the same thing, a life worth living.

We Are Displaced tells the story of Malala and her family becoming internally displaced and then living in England after she was shot as well as the stories of several other women and girls who have been displaced as well. The stories are told in their own words with their own emotions. Some are still living in refugee camps, some are working hard to make a new life in a new country. One didn’t even learn why her parents fled when she was young and one “adopted” a refugee family when they arrived in America. These are all important stories to know. As I read the book, I found myself reading bits and pieces to anyone who would listen. I very highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

My 8 yr-old daughter and I learned a lot from listening to these inspiring survival stories from women from around the globe. It is hard to imagine loosing everything including loved ones. How these girls managed to overcome their losses and ordeals are life lessons that no one should ever experience. Very relevant in the unstable world we currently live in to raise awareness on the lives of the refugees we might have around us and on our own vulnerabilities.

What a marvelous and heartbreaking story about displaced families and refugees all over the world. We need to take note about not only the hatred they experienced in their own countries, but also the racism and hatred they continue to experience in their new lands.

The best book that I have ever read

THIS IS a very informative book. This young woman has endured so much. The story of her life evokes emotion of empathy and gratitude to live in a country, although not perfect, but where girls may attend school. This is a must read for any one who wants to know what it is like to be a young refugee. So many of us take our freedoms for granted and have no idea why families flee the countries of their birth.

The stories Malala shares are tragic and amazing at the same time. I highly recommend this book.

Powerful stories from displaced girls from around the world. A must read for those of us who care about humanity.

I've reviewed the other Benchmark maps, but seeing how I live in Montana, I'd like to tell you about my experience with this map here. I've been a long time fan of Benchmark maps and think I have every state except Utah. This map of Montana is far better than common atlas counterparts you'll see out there. I'm actually on my second copy for Montana, one's a duct taped field version and the other's my home reference. I like having paper maps and still make an effort to navigate with them on occasion.I use this to plan out camping trips fairly extensively and have identified some cool areas with it. Most campgrounds are marked, as are fishing holes, raft camps, ranches, nuclear missile sites and other recreational or interesting things worth knowing about an area. The rivers and creeks are well defined and will be an indispensable reference for the fly fishermen who seeks to explore uncharted, challenging waters. State and BLM land is fairly easily identified and all forests are clearly marked. Many major hiking trails and trail systems are displayed on the maps and most geographically interesting things are identified as well. If you like to get out and explore or you're an outdoorsman/outdoorswoman in Montana, there's really no other map for you.The shaded relief maps found in the Benchmark maps are incredibly easy to read for elevation and landscape contours. I've criticized the elevation coloring of higher elevations on other Benchmark state maps, and Montana is no exception. The problem is everything from 6000 feet up is white, so you can't see the difference between a 6,000' peak and a 10K' peak. It's probably even more important here as a fair bit of our land exceeds 6,000 feet. But nonetheless, it's easy to figure out where you're at within the terrain. The road detail is very good and details everything from the highways to the deep back roads. As I use these maps mostly for deep country exploration, I have found a number of discrepancies in the detail of some of the back country trails and offshoots, but to me, it leaves a little bit of fun in the exploration of an area. But, navigation with these maps is easy and adjacent maps are easily located. There are latitude and longitude sections on the maps in 10 minute increments, allowing easy reference to your GPS or known location.This map is fun to look at, in my opinion. There's at least a dozen alleged big foot sightings identified in the map book. Most, if not all of the Lewis & Clark camps are identified throughout the atlas. You can see where various minerals and metals are mined throughout the state. A bonus feature of this map is a fairly decent map of Yellowstone National Park, even though most of it's in Wyoming. Fun fact...I did notice on my versions, and I don't know if this has been corrected in later prints, that the state map on the back of the book (where you identify your inner pages), has incorrectly identified the size and location of Three Forks, MT. Apparently there's a Three Forks up towards Flathead lake and this was somehow confused with the size icon with the well known (and more populated) Three Forks, MT. (This matter is correct on the inside maps, however.)Anyhow, I really dig these maps, so I take the time to review them here on Amazon.

Excellent details not found in other maps. I especially like the many notations for campgrounds and ranches. Only negative I've had with the map is its use of color-coding to indicate elevation. Higher elevations have a yellowish-gold background, so all details are easy to read. Lower elevations can be dark green, which can make dark-inked place names and roads hard to locate. Don't know whether it's just me, but the washes of green in the background on the eastern part of the state make small details a challenge for me to read.

I travel on backroads all over the US, and as a result I'm forced to use the Delorme in the east, where Benchmarks aren't available. Every time I look at one of the Delormes, I am nagged by a terrible longing for the Benchmark.Also, the Benchmarks contain far more detail. On the Delormes, most of the smaller backroads aren't labeled. On the Benchmark they are. Plus, it is an infinitely more beautifully example of cartography.I have nothing but praise for the Benchmark series. They're in a class of their own.

I recently completed a two-month road trip, of which two weeks were spent in Montana. This atlas was a godsend, showing me forest roads that were not always noted on other maps. National forests, BLM lands, all were clearly shown in this atlas. I could open to whatever page I needed and find a campground, trail head or a forest to camp in. Special notes of interest were also annotated, showing Lewis and Clark sites, Indian encampments and other historical events.The accuracy of this atlas is impressive. For the Bozeman area there is a special map that shows that area in great detail. The details are so clear that when I finally left Montana for Wyoming, I felt completely lost without my Benchmark map showing me the way. All my old Delorme gazetteers will be replaced with Benchmark maps.Since I use both Benchmark and Delorme maps, I've realized from my road trip that for western states that have greater public lands, the Benchmark atlases serve a better purpose than the road atlas of Delorme.If you like the outdoors, enjoy hiking, camping, cycling or kayaking or American history, or prefer the hidden back roads, this is the atlas for you. Scenic drives, bike trails, major trail heads and even waterfalls are noted here.

I have climbed a mountain to a lookout to find out the Trailhead was not where the map said and was 2.5 miles off. The lookout that was 2.5 miles off was a totally different name than what was on the map also. I spent Memorial Day driving some back roads in Montana and could not figure out which road was which because there were too few road numbers listed. My husband has a different brand of the same type of map and we have never had these problems and the printing is larger on his map. Not happy with this purchase at all!!! Usually don't write reviews, but after yesterday am very motivated. My advice is to put your money towards a different map.

This has everything I need for creepy crawling around Montana. My eyes aren't bad but I do need a magnifying glass if I want to see the finest detail. I do wish the railroads were marked a little more legible. The detail is to the point where it provides names of many farms and ranches. But most importantly, it shows all the roads and whether they are gravel or paved.

First of all, the cover of this book is just awesome. The information is good for the most part. But as with all books, it lags behind the internet for hotels and restaurants. But the sights and trkes have pretty good descriptions.

Excellent book for any one doing extended travel in South America. It works best as a starting place as the book can be a bit outdated. But it's an excellent way to prepare for your next destination while on an airplane, bus or car without WiFi.

Its a bit as if a couple of people got together and decided to create their own Smithsonian. This book, based on the collection, takes you through the early history of devices to study and apply electricity. You'll find something you've never heard about before on almost every page. A perfect gift for any science or technology buff.

One of the best illustrated books I have read on the history of radio and electrical apparatus. The photos are outstanding. Even though the book is heavy on photos, there is plenty of clearly written text to explain what you are looking at.

Awesome book, the photos show pieces of the past that changed our present. Most people will never see these devices, yet everyone has benefitted from them.

This book is a tour in photographs of the American Museum of Radio & Electricity, located in Bellingham Washington.In a way, it is a history, but the narrative is very brief. The photography is first-class, and covers the subject pretty well. Obviously, there are things that are an important part of Radio / Electrical history, but for which there are no museum specimens. Nor is this primarily a book of period photos. Nonetheless, I believe that it is a must-have for anyone with an interest in old Radio / Electricity.

Great book, lots of interesting information and wonderful illustrations.

Excellent read if you are interested in the discovery of electricity and the invention of the equipment we use today. Make me want to visit their museum.
