This little collection of articles offers fascinating insight into Jewish traditions, together with sprinklings of Rabbi Kuschner's wit. I recommend it highly.

Well written in a style making the subject matter easy to understand. I highly recommend this book if you have any desire to understand how the Jewish mind and heart operates and responds to organized religion.

This rabbi is a master of our generation, and this book is a funny and compelling collection of his sermons. I highly recommend it.

Rabbi Lawrence Kushner, a reform rabbi and author of more than a dozen and a half informative easy to read books, has collected close to fifty short, frequently very humorous observations written during his more than several decades of service as a concerned rabbi. Rabbi Kushner includes serious messages within the humor. He divides his observations into six sections: rabbi, Judaism, family, world, mysticism, and holiness. In the first section, for example, he discusses his view of the responsibilities of a rabbi. Readers will find him making statements such as: "Rabbis should treat Jews more like rabbis. Jews should treat rabbis more like Jews." "The more you rehearse anything, the more deadly it becomes. Besides, people make just as many gaffes anyway." In his Judaism section, Kushner speaks about conversion. "I converted a man (who was already married to a Jew) whose last name was Fitzpatrick. `But Rabbi,' he said, "Fitzpatrick isn't a Jewish name." I said, "It will be." In regard to another man who was married to a Jewish woman, he asked if the man wanted to convert. He responded, "Yes." The rabbi asked him why he hadn't done it before. He answered, "Nobody asked me to do it." One of the most hilarious chapters is in this section. He speaks about taking names at random from the white pages of the phone book, and sending these non-Jews a letter. It begins: Shalom!We the board of directors of the Congregation Emanu-El at our last meeting unanimously selected you (and your entire nuclear family) to become Jews-by-surprise.No matter how ridiculous you consider this decision, there are already tens of thousands of born Jews who know and do less than you do. Even if you are an avowed anti-Semite, relax, there are already many Jews like you, too....The letter goes on to describe the responsibilities of these new Jews. It contains humor as well as sharp criticisms of Jews. Kushner finishes his book with reflections on Thornton Wilder's great play Our Town. He recalls how one of the characters has died and asks if it is possible to go back in time and see oneself. She is told that it is possible, but not to do so, because it is too painful. She rejects the advice and goes back to view her twelfth birthday. She sees how her family is ignoring the possibilities of life and not really enjoying life. Her family is not living as if they will die someday. Kushner advises us not to live this way. This is his message after being a rabbi for so long, after seeing so much, after hearing so many tales of wasted lives lived wrong.

To same space, WM= William Mounce. BBG=Basic Biblical Greek Grammar. This isan expanded edition of the earlier book of the same name. One will recognize manyelements of the author's BBG, but this is more of "how to use Greek for exegesis" so itdoesn't have a lot of paradigms etc. WM even puts in the "professor" character from theBBG 3rd ed. He has chapters on word studies, translations, textual criticism, advice onhow to use commentaries, etc. It's written at an elementary level so it's an excellentguide for someone just wanting to understand more deeply the scriptures, or to checkthe accuracy of translations. If one wants to go more in depth, he/she can consult theintermediate grammars like Gerald L. Stevens or Wallace (that one is really detailed!).WM divides the book into sections of increasing depth - Fundamental Greek, Church G.,& Functional G. He deals with verbal aspect in several places. He says tenses do havethe time element in the indicative mood, but it's second to aspect. Outside the indicative,only aspect is a factor. The 3 are UNDEFINED, CONTINUOUS, and (traditional perfect)complete w/ continuing results. Whether the traditional perf/pluperfect is THE meaningof the tense, or an aktionsart, I will leave to the reader. Sometimes these 2 tensesrepresent a state. The traditional perfect is there much of the time, determined by themeaning of the verb and context. One should look at how the verbs are actually used(sometimes it's really hard to tell why the perfect was used). Perhaps the old proverbapplies to Greek i.e. "the only hard and fast rule, is that there are NO hard and fast rules".The book is helpful for students of the word. One can learn the plan of salvation fromgood translations, but knowledge of the Greek can answer questions, like the seemingcontradiction between (ROM 3:23 & 1 JOHN 1:08,10) with (1 JOHN 3:06,09). Or thequestion of why Jesus told Thomas to touch Him, but said to Mary "touch Me not" in(JOHN 20:17). Understanding the (normally) continuous/repeated of action of thepresent tense can answer these questions.I believe the book has a few flaws (thus 4 stars). I think WM gets some things wrong,like when he says a commentator should never say something in the Bible is clear orobvious. One might say this about figurative language - like REVELATION, but if theBible isn't clear about say, what one must do to go to Heaven, then what's the point?Also WM says on pg 126 (2nd "dot") a student can't "argue" with a commentator or atranslator - he/she doesn't know enough Greek. One doesn't have to be a scholar tobe able to see when someone is putting in his/her own theology (at least there areenough clear passages in the Bible that one shouldn't have to). The great scholarA.T. Robertson mentions this on pg 389 of his "big book" - there comes a point whengrammar stops and theology takes over. Even WM says there're commentaries hedoesn't recommend.I recommend the book. As to the few problems, always remember what DouglasK. Stuart said in his book on commentaries "just because one is a PHD, doesn'tNECESSARLY mean that he/she is right and you're wrong". Always let the Biblespeak for itself.

I got this book for my wife, who is a complete Greek novice. She enjoys it. And it is accessible for her. The book is divided into three sections, where each section gives an increasingly in depth summary of nt Greek. This is a great idea; if you only want to know the basics, do section 1. If you want to know a little more, perhaps do section 2 as well. Section 3 starts to get into the basics that you would hit in a first year text book. This is not a replacement for a first year textbook; this is for someone who doesn't want to commit to a first year textbook. For a extra fee, you can order helpful videos done by the author himself.

All of William Mounce's books are excellent for Biblical Greek study. I eagerly pre-ordered this edition anticipating a newer edition with computer software for the coursework. This Second Edition was supposed to come with a CD-Rom companion. I ordered two and never received the CD-Roms. Amazon tried to help but apparently they did not receive the CD-Roms with this release either. I tried contacting Zondervan by e-mail and have not received a response. Without Mounce's CD-Rom companion I recommend saving the money and buying his first edition.UPDATE:The classes are online but have to be purchased after lesson 3. Sadly, this was not mentioned in the pre-order information. My correspondence with Amazon customer service verifies the accompanying CD-Rom in the pre-order advertising. I hope to receive some help from Zondervan on this issue. I will provide updates. For now, I recommend the First Edition of Greek for the Rest of Us. I am an actual customer who purchased this item through pre-order.

I use the Mounces' (father and son team) products to teach "Baby Greek" in various communities and these products are well received and valued.

Very informative and well written. I especially like the concept of Phrasing as an aid to meditating on the Word. I don't know Greek and got a lot of value out of it.

More comprehensive than I originally thought it would be. It's a great book for learning about Greek without all of the memorization (although there is some) by an author who really knows his subject. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to get deeper into Bible study but doesn't have the time for full college courses.

About the Author

Timothy P. Melchert, PhD, graduated in 1992 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a doctorate in counseling psychology. He taught at Texas Tech University before moving to Marquette University in 1998. This book does a superb job of explaining, supporting, and advocating for the biopsychosocial theory of behavioral health as an overarching metatheory for the discipline. The author, in fact, suggests that the biopsychosocial approach can serve to unite such seemingly contradictory psychological schools as evolutionary-biological, cognitive, and psychodynamic. It can do this by functioning as a basic foundation for psychology. The various schools, then, become individual and separate approaches within this foundation.

Helped me with a grad school assessment I needed to do from biopsychosocial perspective.

I had access to one chapter of this book in my Diagnostics and treatment planning class; that one chapter was more helpful than the entire text book we are using.

I remember the news stories, I remember the whole "Free Kevin" movement on the web, I remember reading about his release in newspapers and online magazines. It's awesome to read about these events, now, from his perspective.I've read several of the negative comments written about this book, and I don't understand why these people read the book in the first place. They talk about not being able to sympathize, they judge Mitnick for taking advantage of people, they hate Mitnick for the way he exploited his mother and grandmother, they talk bad because they can't understand what drove Mitnick to continue to break into systems, they are irritated because of his cocky attitude. In my opinion, those reviews are more emotional than objective.In common with the people who wrote negative reviews, I too felt bad for his mother, grandmother, friends, him, and everyone he ever used for his criminal activities. I too felt that he had plenty of opportunities to stop and get away clean. I too rolled my eyes when I read about how much smarter he was than everyone else, especially towards the end b/c it'd been ongoing throughout the book. But it's Kevin Mitnick - the social engineer hacker king - Interaction w/ people and mind-screwing most of them is expected, as is the manipulation of relationships in his favor!My 5 stars because:I like (auto)biographies, I am an IT professional, I enjoy narratives - this book was a perfect read for me. I could hardly put it down. It only took me a couple of weeks to read (light reading in evenings and heavier on weekends).I was hooked from the beginning - opening word by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. The book contains a few jaw-dropping moments as Mitnick explains how he infiltrated organizations and systems. It was engaging from cover to cover - reading of how he evaded capture, how he ran counter surveillance on the FBI, how he changed identities, and a whole lot more.You'll enjoy this book if you:- are an IT professional- prefer reading crime-drama novels, autobiographies, or fugitive/on-the-run type novels- can handle a subject without hating the subjects (can you appreciate genius in a person regardless of how they use their ability?)

I only have a couple free hours at night, and a few hours in the weekend to read. Every moment free I've had since last week, I have spent reading. Only four days, I am on page 162. This book is one of the best I read. Oddly, Catch Me If You Can is one of my favorite movies. The book is kind of on the same lines but Kevin hacked and used social engineering for people information. Frank in the movie used social engineering for conning people and stealing. Kevin never stole from people.This book follows Kevin from the time he was around 8, learning to pick locks. I laughed and thought, "at 8 I was playing with Barbies, what a waste of my time." Kevin Mitnick writes in a way that most people can understand and explains every term. Heck he explains how he did everything he accomplished. Ghost in the Wires is a fascinating book. If I had three full free days, I'd have it finished by now. I can't put it down.

I had heard of Kevin Mitnick, but this is the first time reading about his exploits. I think this book should be required reading for anyone who works in help desk or other technology; heck, I worked in a hospital, and I think all of the staff should have been reading it too. In addition to the interesting technology he introduces us to, it gives a great view of social engineering and how easy it was for him to get what he wanted.

This book is pretty good. It somewhat overly glorifies Mitnick, but is essentially factual. I worked at The Well when this was all going down! Most of us in the office thought the FBI peeps were hired security consultants. LOL. It does get it a bit wrong about how he was detected. It wasn't the tech department. It was the head of Community, who was checking out comped accounts with excessive disk usage. (Back then, disk space wasn't cheap!) She saw files which were filled with CC info, alerted tech, and they went after him. And got him.

Having read the Littman books and multiple articles about phreaking and hacking, I had a pretty good idea of Kevin's story. But due tomorrow statute of limitations expiring, he and a ghost we are able to tell his side. What impressed me was his intelligence, almost photographic memory, and drive. Sure, he comes off as slightly pretentious, but it's well edited. I skipped over most of the technical descriptions but still thoroughly enjoyed the story. I don't even steal cable, so I was never onboard with the Free Kevin movement. Still, I'm a fan.

For a couple of 4-5 days I couldn't put this book down. 2nd time I've read it. I enjoyed it more the 2nd time for some reason!Kevin Mitnick is easy to relate to if you are a computer person, like hacking/ hacks, fun projects, and knowing forbidden knowledge. Was interesting to learn that he lived in Denver in a area that I did around the same time! Great book, sort of like reading a thriller/mystery except it was real events.Much better than some of the other "I was a teen age hacker" books out there. Hopefully he keeps writing. I really enjoyed learning basic security and privacy tips, just a fun read overall.

In all, I thought this a pretty worthwhile story, and best told by Mitnick himself. The pacing was good, and he offered an approachable tale for both technophiles and laypersons. At times, I did feel as though the first-person storytelling waxed self-aggrandizing but there's always that danger in an autobiography of such notoriety. In the end, I couldn't quite reach a sense of real sympathy for Mitnick, but I do think his side of the story was an important consideration when rendering any judgement of his actions. This was the real value of the book, and if that's what you're looking for, then you can't possibly be disappointed.

About the Author

Frank H. Netter was born in New York City in 1906. He studied art at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design before entering medical school at New York University, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1931. During his student years, Dr. Netter’s notebook sketches attracted the attention of the medical faculty and other physicians, allowing him to augment his income by illustrating articles and textbooks. He continued illustrating as a sideline after establishing a surgical practice in 1933, but he ultimately opted to give up his practice in favor of a full-time commitment to art. After service in the United States Army during World War II, Dr. Netter began his long collaboration with the CIBA Pharmaceutical Company (now Novartis Pharmaceuticals). This 45-year partnership resulted in the production of the extraordinary collection of medical art so familiar to physicians and other medical professionals worldwide. Icon Learning Systems acquired the Netter Collection in July 2000 and continued to update Dr. Netter’s original paintings and to add newly commissioned paintings by artists trained in the style of Dr. Netter. In 2005, Elsevier Inc. purchased the Netter Collection and all publications from Icon Learning Systems. There are now over 50 publications featuring the art of Dr. Netter available through Elsevier Inc. Dr. Netter’s works are among the finest examples of the use of illustration in the teaching of medical concepts. The 13-book Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations, which includes the greater part of the more than 20,000 paintings created by Dr. Netter, became and remains one of the most famous medical works ever published. The Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy, first published in 1989, presents the anatomic paintings from the Netter Collection. Now translated into 16 languages, it is the anatomy atlas of choice among medical and health professions students the world over. The Netter illustrations are appreciated not only for their aesthetic qualities, but, more importantly, for their intellectual content. As Dr. Netter wrote in 1949 “clarification of a subject is the aim and goal of illustration. No matter how beautifully painted, how delicately and subtly rendered a subject may be, it is of little value as a medical illustration if it does not serve to make clear some medical point.” Dr. Netter’s planning, conception, point of view, and approach are what inform his paintings and what make them so intellectually valuable. Netter's is the go to atlas for anatomy. I am currently using this for my first year of med school and it has all of the graphics I need. These images are also often used by professors on exams. I have a pdf version of the previous edition of the atlas and compared to that, this edition is definitely worth the upgrade. The reason being the tables that I do not see in the older edition. In this edition there is a table at the end of each section of the muscles, their action, blood supply, innervation and muscle group. This is an amazing resource for a condensed version of the information you will need on exams. Friends who have the older version spent hours writing out tables of their own, flipping through endless material looking for that information.I highly recommend this as the first line atlas that you get. You can find supplemental information on the web, or add another atlas to the collection if you feel you need one. This will be the best one to start with though.

Savior of A&P. No doubt about it.I recently undertook a 10-credit A&P intensive in 8 weeks, and without a single doubt, this book was my main resource for all of the anatomy practicals.Our textbook was inadequate - it would have partial and very select views of anything, and didn't cover half of what we had to learn. Among the Atlases that we had on hand, I first found the 5th edition of this book and even though it wasn't photographic, I really appreciated that it was so detailed and offered so many variations on the same area. You can go from skeleton to muscle, nerves, or check out diagnostic imaging views like X-Rays or other scans. I didn't feel that, given the detailed variety here, I was missing anything by not having photos. I checked this newest edition out from my library and was elated to see that just about all the gaps from Dr. Netter's work have been filled by digital rendering that strikes a balance between the accuracy I expect from computers but also the aesthetic I expect from the overall Atlas. I'm sure they're trying hard to find a new way to make an edition given that this is so complete - but I welcome the result.I bought this book after the class were over (I did well) to be a TA for the class throughout the year. With the easy organization of the book, I was able to flag all the areas I knew students would have questions about and was able to absolutely enrich their studying by offering new ways to look at and locate features.This book is currently being sold at a great price. Wouldn't miss it if you're in the market. Only improvement I'd suggest for future editions would be to have the option of a spiral binding with water resistant/alcohol-fast paper so that it could live in the cadaver room. The book still lays flat enough without much manipulation, but being pressed flat puts undue stress on the current binding.

This atlas is soo awesome. Very detailed dissection of different parts and organs. CT and Xray photos. Summary tables at the end of each section. Extremely colorful pictures. Perfect for beginners. Not for advanced health professionals because if you dissect a real human body, it all looks the same. With blood everywhere, You can’t differentiate between an artery or a tendon or a nerve. With all that, this atlas gives an excellent 3D picture of how all the organs, muscles, bones...etc are placed and connected together. A must buy

The drawings are clear, and I'm glad that I studied it because this is the resource that I would want to use to show patients anatomical features in my practice. Additionally, the muscle tables were helpful. However, for actually learning the material, I found Grants atlas of anatomy to be much more helpful because it includes verbal descriptions, and I learn best if I have descriptions to accompany graphics. Netters has only pictures and no descriptions.

I bought this for medical school on the recommendation of students that were ahead of me in the program, and I honestly wasn't sure how often I'd be using it at first. The pictures are very well drawn-out and labeled, however, and I found myself using this book constantly while studying for anatomy practicals. Extremely helpful for learning where structures are typically found and the path they take through the body. I would say it is a must-buy for any medical student.

This book is an educational book used by most nursing students although, I am not a nursing student I found it quite helpful in understanding the human structure and the intricacies of the system. I try to explain to my doctor just how or where the problem is and always seem to fail until I invested in this book. It also, is useful in understanding how muscles work and how interrelated they are to other parts such as the ligaments, the vascular system and much more. When I tire of it I will donate it to a nursing student or library. It is overwhelming for ordinary people such as myself but, it serves the purpose for my immediate needs. Great educational tool.

If you are looking for the information about knitting for beginners, then it is a great resource for you. This is a step by step guide with picture illustrations for knitting beginners. In this book, the author gives us the information about how to start knitting- supplies and resources, basic knits and techniques- including simple practice projects, beginner knitting projects- start to finish, combination beginner knit projects, intermediate knitting preparation and project. I found this book very informative and useful. It is described in the simple language and easy to understand. I got so much important and helpful information on all my questions. I liked this guide and would recommend it for those who are fond of knitting. It is worth reading.

Now that I am retired I am thinking of taking up knitting again. I did it when I was much younger, but found that I did not have the time after my children came. At the time crocheting was easier. That is why I picked up this book. It is a great refresher with some stitches I have never seen. I already have started a simple pattern from the book. If you are just learning or need a refresher like me this is a great book to have.

Although i'm already learning knitting from my mother but this book also taking its good part to help me learn picking up yarn and needles, also practice projects that included in the end are helpful and I'm making first garter stitch scarf and I cant even wait to complete it well and start my new practice.

I got this as a birthday present for my 10 year old granddaughter who just learned to knit. She was thrilled to learn that she could knit her own cats!! the instructions were easy and she had no trouble getting started.
