I really like this book, and all the books by Mike Lupicia, because they will get my teen son to read! Reading is not his favorite, but he loves sports, and I think he connected with the story. It's not only about sports, but about life as well.

I teach eighth grade and one of my athlete students said he he hasn't read a book on his own in his entire life. Well, today's the last day of school and he finished it. :) Highly recommend for reluctant readers, especially athletes.

I bought this book for my grandson, it is just what I thought it would be. My grandson is 10 and it is a good chapter book for him to start with.

My 9 year old son loved this book. He was able to predict what was going to happen at the end but he still said it was a great book!

Mike Lupica is my favorite author because most of his book are about believing. In this case it is a thirteen year old boy who gets picked out of a raffle to try to win a million dollars by making a football go through a 28 inch hole. My favorite part about it is that there is a girl named Abby who is losing her seeing ability. Will Nate win all the prize money?What will he use the money for? Find out when you read Million Dollar Throw.

I like the cheap hardcover. Great story for football lovers. Especially the patriots

I would recommend this book to people that love football and sports and the Pats. One of the best Mike Lupica books.

I haven't had much contact with the United States Justice System and after reading this book, I am sincerely grateful. Justice isn't always just. After the fight between six teenagers ends with one boy dead, the lives of everyone involved change forever. As the author does a great job of showing, the intentions of the four boys who came to see stab victims Mike McLoren and Jimmy Farris are widely assumed to be that of robbery and murder. The author goes through the series of events that occurred that day in May 1995 from the perspectives of both Mike McLoren and his friend, Jimmy, and the four boys who came to Mike's fort for drugs. A major part of the debate that arose once the four boys were charged was did they come to buy marijuana or steal it. If they came to buy, Jimmy's death looked like manslaughter, which would have had the four boys out of prison in 5-12 years. If the incident was viewed as a robbery (which is how the prosecution saw it), the death became a murder, which could mean life in prison or even death.A case like this results in a lot of strong emotions coming out and as a reader I felt some of those emotions. The grief of Jimmy's family that lead them to condemn the four boys (Micah, Jason, Tony, and Brandon) and their driver (Chris) completely. The sorrow of the boy's families as they watched their loved ones face complete condemnation and the assumptions and wrong information that went with it. The major irritation I felt as the judge and jury took the word of an untrustworthy witness who'd changed his version of events over and over (Mike McLoren). The anger I felt at the whole incident being connected to gang activity that scared the jury into requesting police protection, even though there was no proof of actual gang involvement. A judge who showed no mercy, who let the verdict stand despite evidence of jury misconduct.I found this to be both a fascinating book to read and a hard book to read. To read about the tragic consequences of young people using drugs and alcohol about broke my heart. To read about the awful punishment that the five boys received and to feel that it was not just punishment for what amounted to an accident in the heat of the moment in which all six boys participated. What the book does supremely well though is demonstrate the power of seemingly small, insignificant choices and the power they have to change one's life forever. One inch more or less and the knife would have missed Jimmy's heart and Jimmy Farris would still be alive, and four boys wouldn't be sitting in jail with little to no chance of every being free again.Note: Content wise it's pretty much what you would expect: swearing, teenage drinking and drug use, brief reference to sex, and the brief violence that lead to Jimmy Farris's death.

Terrific read! So well conceived and clear, especially in terms of putting things in context historically. The author really takes the reader inside the world of the boys and their families with compelling and detailed storytelling. Great beach read too even though the circumstances are tragic.

I am not finished with it but it appears very one sided

Excellent book! Wonderful writing skills, as well as a fascinating, unbelievable series of events. This is a book everyone should read to become more aware of the ineptitude of our legal system. I could not put the book down. Highly recommended.

One Cut by Eve Porinchak is a nonfiction story on riveted.com. This true telling of a young man's death brings all sides into the light and shows how complicated seeking justice can become. The media attention and heresy escalated the case that didn't have much solid evidence. Regardless of the lack of evidence and even the fact that the young man driving never left the vehicle, they were all still charged with homicide. The book felt one sided and I believe it was written that way to help show the injustice of the entire case. I read it and still haven't come to any conclusions about where the guilt should be placed and I can't imagine the jury's frustration with this case; 3.5 stars.

This is not a tale of complete innocents finding themselves randomly caught up in a situation they have no control over, but one of boys dabbling in petty crimes, cheap thrills, and local disputes with other teens — all of them clueless about how quickly these things can escalate.Eve Porinchak’s well-researched, if somewhat biased account, places us in a football field-sized backyard in sleepy Agoura Hills on the outskirts of Los Angeles on a chilly Monday night in May, 1995. When two groups of local youths clash over a misunderstanding, it tears apart a community and destroys any chance of a normal future for each of the young men involved.Porinchak takes us inside the homes of the horrified teen’s families, revealing their backgrounds and influences.She follows with a not-very-pretty picture of sensational media reporting, and a prejudiced legal community who base their prosecution case on ill-considered precedents. The result is an outcome that makes little sense.This is an uncomfortable read for parents of teenage boys, but an important one.

The surf is up just down the street and my stomach is riding a wild wave as the jury of six somberly files into the nearly empty courtroom.I have no idea what to expect. My lawyer, David Pollack, leans a little closer and whispers, 'Well, this is it. . . . ' I wish there was something I could hold onto besides his words since my legs aren't feeling very steady as the bailiff, a very kindly looking older man, intones, 'All rise.'This is a landmark case for Internet defamation, as no precedent has ever been set. My organization has been all but destroyed. My personal reputation dragged through such muck it makes a pig sty seem clean by comparison. David has prepared me as best he can for what the verdict might be. I'm already out over $100,000 with a second mortgage on my house to get this far, but if the jury finds in my favor and grants us even a tenth of that I'll feel vindicated.The Honorable Judge John Luzzo, in flowing black robe and wearing his duties with appropriate dignity, takes his elevated seat on the bench and asks the foreman, 'Has the jury reached a verdict?''We have, Your Honor.' Highly recommended read - this well documented and necessary report is about pioneering internet thugs who were harbingers of how the internet is used to spread invidious allegations weighing on the idea that the more people who spread the lies/conspiracy theories of the mentally ill, somehow truth results.This story reports on "the swarm" as I have dubbed them. Whenever detractors speak out on any internet forum or after a news broadcast on aspects of a related story, which story links to an online comment page, the swarm attacks backed by internet hackers and thieves invade the detractors' privacy. However, their actions are not limited to the internet. They weave allegations and co-sign one another's stories to vilify anyone who may want to shed some light and truth. The swarm are like screaming and stomping little children in the grocery store. So called investigative journalists who have previously been referred to as "parasitic sensationalists" have taken up a tangential stream of the swarm's agenda. Fueled by these same journalists' own hubris, ideological bias (and/or just plain incompetence or laziness) a s**** sandwich of craziness results. Unfortunately, the problem of epistemology is why we will never know exactly how many people have been or will be harmed by the actions of journalists and others who fight to have the swarm's agenda promoted. There is a SEQUEL to this book that needs to be written. Right now, that story is still ongoing.

As someone who is in the throes of a civil case with a cyberstalker I found this book as a beacon of light in what's often depressing and overwhelming to me.There were parts of Sue's story which were incredibly difficult for me to read because I could feel her horror and disbelief on what was happening to her.I'd recommend this book to those who want to be proactive in protecting their name (or business) as well as those who may be in the various stages of cyberstalking or cyber defamation attacks.

Sue and John's book is fantastic! Real, heart-felt triumphant AND incredibly sad. It's amazing to see that finally the malicious attempts to destroy Sue's good name and business were quashed and punished. Vindication is key!It is horribly sad that these individuals would take so much time and energy in an attempt to destroy another person's existence. They most certainly fall in the category of sociopathic and serial cyber bullies. A new internet phenomenon.Sociopath/Serial Bullies (as you will learn) are manipulative and chronic liars! They continuously lie about what they are thinking or have done. Because they are shallow and pathetic, and they lack emotions, they don't feel bad on being rejected by others. They work hard to master their approach and diabolical plans.Sociopath/Serial Bullies are NOT successful in life and do not have the capacity to accomplish anything great. They think they are, but they aren't. WHY? They are LAZY and don't feel they have to put in hard work and hours required for success. They also ARE NOT ACCOUNTABLE for their mistakes. It's easier to steal from others and claim it as their own. They actually blaim those they lie about and steal from. Imagine that?Sociopath/Serial Bullies are ATTENTION-SEEKERS. Instead of productive career paths, they instead, carry out campaigns of hate and aggression to get the attention they so badly want. It doesn't matter what type of attention they get, positive or negative, as long as they can provoke someone into paying them attention. The LAW, LAWYERS and POLICE doesn't phase them.Hats off to Sue and John for educating us and bringing the internet and the law up to speed!

A novel approach to a book. Sue Scheff tells her story of a victim of someone using blogs and other internet sites to attack her character and her life's work. John Dozier, a famous cyber lawyer picks up from time to time and does the background and explanations. They even use a different font treatment for the two authors. Sue's story is compelling and it is clear as day this could happen to anyone and that it would be horrible. John does a great job with the facts outside of the story. I really enjoyed reading it. This is a light read, more like a two -three hour plane ride than a five hour. If there was one area I wish they would beef up, it would be the Michael Fertik, Reputation Defender part of this, but I guess that world keeps some of their secret sauce tips and tricks to themselves and that is certainly fair. If you Google "Sue Scheff", it is clear that she is in control of her brand at this point. Glad I read the book, plan to encourage others from my organization to take a look and give it a thought.

As a graduating nutrition major I really wanted to get this book to carry me into the internship. Just skimming through I can already see why my professors and RD's so highly recommend this book. Will be the bible going forward.

Good guide for Athens. Not a guide for Greece at all. Says nothing about Thessaloniki and Macedonia, the Northern region. The book title is very misleading.

We bought this book for our upcoming trip to Greece. Like all of Rick Steves' books, it is not very thorough. He will go into minute detail about one area, and then skip vast other areas that should be covered. He needs to rename his books to not include the name of the country when it only covers certain cities. Like calling it Rick Steves USA, and then only covering NYC.

I’m heading to Greece in the fall and this guide has help me prepare for the free days of travel I will have on the trip.

Rick never fails to provide excellent information. If you purchase this, you do not need his separate Athens guide book. The island chapters include small maps of the principal towns.

Book has tons of helpful data for Athens primarily and the surrounding islands. I will review again after I travel.

Purchased and gave as a gift, recipient travels extensively and was pleased with the content of the book.

Love all of Rick Steve's guide books! We have travelled with several. Arrived on time and I excellent shape.

Rick's travel books have always been my go to guides. He provides valuable travel information along with humor, history, and art!

Yesterday when I ordered this book, there were six reviews, five of which were five-star reviews. I received my order this afternoon. Today, however, I am told that I am the first reviewer. Strange ... The description of the book yesterday gave no indication that it was a children's book, and there was no way to look at pages inside the book. Today, however, the description clearly states that it is written for young readers. Strange again ... Had I known that the presentation would be so elementary, I would not have ordered it.
