I had high hopes for this book, but it falls short. The rhymes are cute, but it's message of saying no to adults is too broad and annoyingly repetitive. The message leaves no room for explaining to kids which situations are appropriate for touch (parents bathing/doctors). The book adamantly insists that NO ONE, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES should touch a child's genitals- and it preaches this message OVER AND OVER again. My child is toilet training and doesn't wipe her bottom well, often requiring a "follow-up" check. This same kid has an allergy to bubble bath that caused redness in her genitals that needed to be examined by a doctor. This book made no mention of "okay" circumstances for touch. Additionally, research shows that the most effective way to teach children about "stranger danger" or other risky situations is to help them learn to recognize and listen to their gut or uncomfortable feelings. This book makes no mention of this concept.This is only a minor issue, but worth mentioning. I didn't anticipate this, but when I showed the book to my three year old, she wanted to start drawing in all of her books since the illustrations in this one are all child drawn (or child-like).This could be a pro or a con depending on your needs/uses, but the book only uses stick figures and doesn't show any anatomy.The positive message (and sadly the only message) is that there should never be any games involving private parts. This is important because most abuse occurs under the guise of a game. I appreciate this message as many books gloss over it, unfortunately it's the only message in the book.

The book repeats the theme that there is no *game* that is ok that involves the private parts and empowers the child to say No, I don't like that touch. So, if your child doesn't want you to wash them then they would say no. It says potty words are pee and poop and it's ok to ask for help to go potty. Also, "rubba-dub is for the tub" "A babysitter, super-star, whoever they may be. Will never, ever play a touching game with me. I do not have to play. Get away I will say"In NO way did I get the impression that private parts were demonized AT ALL! The exact OPPOSITE in fact. This book allows adults to talk to a child about something adults are uncomfortable saying out loud. It encourages the adult to say penis and vagina out loud with no shame. Please don't skip over this book because of one reviewers impression, it is too important of a book! This book EMPOWERS ("I am young and I have a big, loud voice") the child to take ownership of their body and that there are adults to tell and get help to stop the "game" (because usually the abuse is from an adult the child trusted). I would be very cautious of adding any clarification for my kids that no one is allowed to touch thier privates except for mommy & daddy to clean because a child molester would use that and start playing a cleaning game and say "mommy and daddy told me to clean you and will be very mad if you don't let me". And what if the molester is the mom or dad? No, just keep it simple, no "private parts game" & "I can say No I don't like that".

I work with children who are in foster care, and their parents who are working toward reunification. I read all of my verbal children this book, and teach parents how to involve their children in calling out, "Those are MY private parts!" Kids and parents love that the author and her daughter wrote and illustrated it together. This book has empowered so many families, to know their boundaries, to express them, and to identify inappropriate/unsafe behaviors. My favorite part is when it says to take a look at the person reading this book... they'll trust me. The eye contact that I get from parents and kids... indescribable. Every parent needs to own this, every teacher, every library, every social worker, every doctor... we all need access to this book, to heal the hurt and to protect the generations after us.

I love this book. My husband heard about it from a friend and decided to purchase it. It is a great tool to use to assist parents when talking to your little one about inappropriate touches. One of the things I really love about the book is the way it stresses that "those are my private parts." This phrase is repeated over and over in the book like a refrain. Furthermore, it highlights the fact that inappropriate touches can come from anyone, including a parent. Additionally, the book encourages children to report bad touches to an adult. It is illustrated with cute "little kid" pictures like stick figures and the like. It reads almost like a poem and my children love it. It starts with: This is where the learning starts About boys and girls and private parts. The front is different; the back is the same. And most important of all, there are no private parts games. Those Are MY Private Parts!Usually my husband and I read the lines, and my children will chant the refrain together........actually they like to shout it! I'm sure our neighbors have probably heard them shouting "those are my private parts" on more than one occasion! LOL Every time we read this book we use it to segue into a discussion with our children about inappropriate touching. I usually quiz them where I give examples of a touch in various scenarios and they have to tell us if it's "okay" or not. In each scenario I use different adults, including Mommy and Daddy. I would highly recommend this book to any parent.

The book is good ,but they supply me 18 books out of 38 total volume randomly. Not very same as it is listed.

These are simple, but still contain a lot of information. I'm not as crazy about the stories, but I really like the research guides. My son reads through every one as soon as they arrive.

I love that Mary Pope Osborne builds into her books real life experiences in history. My daughter loves them. We research the subject matter after reading the book. We have learned so much about history. We learned about the civil war and revolutionary war at a child's level then went and visited some historic sites.

It is a long somewhat dense book. As an anthropologist he studied many cultures and found the main western view we have of religion isn't really typical. Much religion has more to do with ancestor worship, witches, and sacrifice to nature spirits, than what we typically think of as religion. Also referenced are many studies by cognitive psychologists about the human perception of agency. It is interesting enough to encourage one to learn more, about modularity and the brain. His claim is that some brain modules are in conflict, and in general not aware of each other. In particular the sight of a dead person, whom one has known, is claimed to produce a state of disassociation. This is an interesting theory and many account for some irrationality humans exhibit in regards to death.What it does not cover, or account for, are those native peoples, who have an ethnobotanical and shamanistic tradition, such as the huichol, the Bwiti spiritual practice in West-Central Africa, the Native American Church, etc.The most peculiar case are the ancient Maya who both used ethnobotanicals and had a very sadistic culture (with constant warfare, torture & human sacrifice), language, art, and a very elaborate religion and mythology.So even Boyer's model of religion, (which he wisely defers from defining) which emphasizes superstition, does not account for some of the more interesting aspects of the subject.As others have said the writing is very dense. Marvin Harris on the other hand is an anthropologist who is a delight to read.

Starting out with a brief look at world religions we see that many of them share common themes like; ancestor worship; spirits or Gods that know all about us and can hear our prayers; artifacts that act as intermediaries between us and our ancestor/spirt. When we first hear about a religious concept how does our mind interpret this new information and mold it to fit our own personality? Religion is kinda like a "meme" that can spread from person to person and from one generation to the next with some modifications to suit various cultures. Over time all religions evolve and become individualized to whatever part of the world it occurs in. To learn why we even have religious thoughts we first need to understand how our brain works, how it processes and stores new information and how we deal with living in social groups. In reading this book I was introduced to several unfamiliar concepts like Mental Templates: a process where we catalog and categorize new information. For example when we learn of a new animal our mind stores this information under a kind of "template" labeled "animal" and as we learn more about this animal we add these new facts to our template till we have a complete picture of, say, a giraffe. As we meet new people or learn of different social structures like religion our mind keeps this information in a kind of filing cabinet filled with these templates of information. Some other concepts used are; cognitive niche, decoupled thoughts and precautionary rules. Using these concepts, and others, with real life situations the author paints a picture of how our mind works and how we process thoughts about our social system and religion in particular. Utilizing, not only his own work but the research and findings of clinical psychologist, philosophers and biologist Boyer shines a light into our innermost mind to expose the roots of religion. His writing is clear, informative and well organized and I was left with a new viewpoint on our society and its most treasured component. The segment on childhood development was specially enlightening as were his thoughts on human evolution and why we have an innate ability to live in groups and process new ideas. This is by no means an easy read but I found it well worth my time and effort. I also found it to be a good follow up to my reading of Daniel Dennett's "Darwin's Dangerous Idea" with some of the same concepts. No matter where you stand on the religion issue this is an important read and one that may stick with you for some time to come. So if you're up to the challenge you may want to give "Religion Explained" a try. I highly recommend it. As always, keep an open but skeptical mind. Apart from the usual well-known fields of evolutionary biology and psychology, physics, history and philosophy and even critical biblical scholarship that have debunked literalist religion, sociology is the one area I've never taken a hard look at. This book (even more than Atran's work) has been an eye-opener. Theists almost always, when backed into a corner having their beliefs eroded, will often say "but how can I feel this way" or "how do you explain the deep feeling of god" etc. This book well addresses where these feeling come from and why humans tend to naturally and easily gravitate toward religious thinking and have to expend some effort to think critically. Great, great book. Highly recommended.

I have never read a more stimulating presentation on the brain and religion. I kept a dictionary close at hand. The use of language was wonderful as was the proposed model of the cognitive brain at work. The part dealing with death and all of its trimmings was very fresh to me. It seemed to answer a personal question about why the genre of "Night of the living dead" and other Zombie related movie themes are so engaging to so many. I also loved the terms, "the airy nothing". Without many frustrated hands we seem to perk along fine supported by world views that, although passionately believed, may be wholly fictional and just the proclivity of our cognitive structures. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

The first step was realizing that the Islamic texts had been made deliberately difficult to read and comprehend. A program, the Trilogy Project (see below), was created to strip away the confusion in the texts. It became clear that Islam is not constructed on the same civilizational principles as the rest of the world. Simple statistical methods revealed that dualism and submission were the foundational principles of Islamic doctrine.

Every American needs to know about Sharia, this is an excellent want to learn, well explained without the fluff but lots of history and attribution.

This is a short book about Sharia Law that puts it in a western perspective. It demystifies the origins of Sharia and highlights the problematic nature of Sharia practice in a modern society. Well worth reading so you know Sharia when you see it and the dangers to democratic institutions that will occur if implemented.

Was looking at other books and there were a couple people who referenced this one. It is a quick, easy read and you don't need to be a scholar to following along and it is written for someone who knows nothing about this subject. I agree with many of the other reviewers, this is a must read for anyone trying to figure out this refugee/migrant problem we are dealing with right now. This book lays out clearly how they see unbelievers through their eyes. Very compelling and quite scary!

This is a book of few words but great import. In a very pages the author gives a succinct outline of what is involved in Sharia Law and how it works within society. The view is dark - even sinister - by Western standards. Hence the book, short as it is, is a true eye-opener not the least for those who might have hitherto refused to see what ought to be obvious to all who live on this earth and have ears to listen and eyes to see.

If you are reading this review it probably means you are a poor, unfortunate sole that was smart enough to get into to law school but not smart enough to get out. Now it is mere weeks before your Property final and you are freaking out about the Rule Against Perpetuities. Just buy this. Do it. It's worth wasting another 50 bucks on yet another book. It really is. The examples are actually really helpful, unlike most casebooks.

This text was well-written and very easy to read. It doesn't drown you in technical language, so you can read it very quickly. And, many of the exercise were very helpful to cement your understanding. Definitely consider the exercises if you want to cover your bases, because many of the tricker applications of the concepts are not obvious from just reading the text.Note: I used this as a supplement only - I do not think it would replace studying actual cases, as it is too simplified.

If you are used to reading Glannon's E & E where he gives everything you need to know...and only that in a very organized matter, you will NOT like this book.

Black acre may still haunt me but E&E literally helped me survive Property.

This property E&E was probably the best E&E I've had yet. It explained everything very well and the examples really cut to the question/tested your knowledge to make sure you understood everything. I would definitely recommend this as a study tool for any property class focused on the black letter law!

The most horrendous part of Property wasn't too difficult after a couple dozen RAP problems out of this E&E. A couple fellow students and I spent hours doing RAP problems from this book out on a whiteboard and it paid off come exam time.
