I was looking forward to this cookbook so much so that I preordered it long ago. Alas, it’s not for me. The book itself is very attractive and the recipes are intriguing—in an “around the world” and more complicated manner. I am sure there will be some who love these recipes and make great meals, but not me.I found very few recipes I want to make and feel this is money poorly spent on my part, and an opportunity lost by the good folks at FOK.Can’t help but feel that Forks Over Knives outkicked their coverage. Not sure what audience they were aiming at. Plant based food bloggers might really like it, but the selections are way over my head.A friend asked me what I thought of the book. She has taken some ambitious plant based cooking classes and she makes wonderful food. I suggested she might like it more than I do. And I’ll probably send my copy to her.In spite of my feelings about this cookbook, I would like to add that Darshana Thacker obviously knows her stuff. It would be a treat to sit in her kitchen eating whatever she makes, but to ask me to do it as well is giving me way too much credit.

I love the original Forks over Knives cookbook and use it a lot (although I wish it had color photos of recipes!), so I eagerly pre-ordered this new book. It has really interesting mix of recipes with unique flavor combinations, and I'm really happy I purchased it.The book is divided up into the following sections:* Breakfast* Appetizers* Salads* Burgers, Sandwiches, Tacos, and Other Handheld Meals* Warm Veggie Sides* Soups and Stews* Baked Entrees* Pasta and Noodles* Grains and Beans* Bread and Crackers* Desserts* Dips and SaucesIn keeping with the Forks over Knives philosophy, all of the recipes are whole-foods, plant-based, with no use of animal products. They are also oil-free, and mostly use only natural sweeteners like date paste, although a few of the dessert recipes call for whole cane sugar.When I say that the book has some unique flavor profiles, what I mean is that the author Darshana Thacker puts things together in ways that are different from your traditional recipes. For example, the French toast recipe is Polenta French Toast with Maple-Glazed Blueberries and the Grains and Beans chapter features recipes like Thai Quinoa Salad with Peanut Sauce and Coconut Ginger Red Rice. The recipes have an international flair to them, but the ingredients shouldn't be too hard to track down.Almost every recipe comes with a beautiful color photo, and the ingredients list is clearly spelled out. The recipe instructions are also numbered so that they are very easy to follow.My copy arrived yesterday so I have only made two of the recipes so far (the Sweet Potato Tortilla Soup and the Persian Chickpea Cookies for dessert), but both turned out to be flavorful and simple to make.I've been vegan for about five-and-a-half years and have a nice little library of plant-based cookbooks, and I think that this one will add some uniqueness to my collection. If you're new to WFPB eating, you may want to start with the original FOK book or some of the Plant Pure Nation cookbooks, but this is also a fun one if you're searching for some variety.Bon appetit!

Waste of money. MAYBE 3 recipes that even appeared appetizing. Ingredients will be hard to find in my little town. Too many spicy (hot) recipes that I won't be able to tolerate. There are some instructions that make absolutely no sense (i.e. "You will need a cooking rack inside a baking sheet. " WTH?) and many that are too complicated for someone who is new to cooking. Very disappointed.

I pre-ordered this cookbook and am not disappointed! I have a number of WFPB cookbooks, but find some of them bland and uninteresting. Not this one! I’ve started working my way through the recipes, and so far have not been disappointed. I particularly appreciate that ingredients are well quantified — Not just 2 large carrots; she will also give you the cups or ounces. I also love the diversity of the cuisines ... from Ethiopian to Korean to British Isles.Darshana Thacker uses readily available ingredients, mostly all of which are already in my pantry. I’ve been amazed at how seemingly basic recipes come together to make a tasty, satisfying dish. For example, the very simple London Curried Shepherd’s Pie was a hit. Tonight is Jamaican Mixed Vegetable and Dumpling Stew. Can’t wait!

Recipes are not basic or easy to follow. I looked through the whole book and didn't find one recipe that I even considered making. I've been plant based for 7 years now and have numerous healthy vegan cookbooks. Was so looking forward to this one. Ingredients are hard to find and too involved. It's a shame I have tried some of Darshana's recipes in other FOK's cookbooks and enjoyed them. This should be categorized as international fare. Just not for our house hold. I bought 2 (one was a gift) and am sending both back.

Like some of the other reviewers mentioned, I too was very much looking forward to this book, having pre-ordered it.I was quite disappointed. The recipes seem complicated, and labor intensive, and were not really appealing to me. There were only a few that looked like I might want to try them.Sadly, I am returning the book.

This book has a wide variety of recipes from around the world, all which look delicious.There is perhaps a very slight South Western slant, but perhaps those dishes popped out at me more as that is the region I live in. The Australian pot pie was a delight to see as i'm Australian :)Everything is well presented with nice pictures and nothing looks overly complicated, or containing ingredients you have to be Indiana Jones to find.It is everything one can expect from a good cookbook.Thanks Darshana

I was quite disappointed in this cookbook after pre ordering it. The recipes were not appealing , many labor intensive with ingredients not easily found . I had been really looking forward to this book and sadly it did not meet expectations . I already sent it back

This was a decent review manual to use in conjunction with the general review book (FE Review Manual: Rapid Preparation for the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam, 3rd Ed), and studying the two together helped me pass the FE on my first attempt. A few criticisms: the book doesn't cover groundwater at all, and neither did the general review book. I assume this is because groundwater falls into the category of "civil engineering" and as such would be covered in a civil review manual, but it's an unfortunate omission given that the Environmental FE featured a number of groundwater problems. This book was also weak on biological wastewater treatment processes, with mediocre coverage of activated sludge and anaerobic digestion. Neither this book nor the general review book did a good job of covering toxicology and risk. Finally, the FE exam has questions on environmental regulations that are not addressed in this book. I would recommend working through this book thoroughly and addressing groundwater, toxicology, and regulations with some separate reading.

The introduction of the book describes in lots of detail the format of the test, along with the time you will have to take it, and the things that are and are not allowed into the test room. All of this information is incorrect, and very misleading. An accurate description of the testing procedures can be found in the exam guide PDF, but this book is useless for that. Additionally, in going over the solutions to the exam practice problems, the book has several mistakes and inconsistencies that result in the calculation of incorrect answers. Nevertheless, I would still recommend the book as a comprehensive review of the environmental engineering discipline, as long as you watch carefully for mistakes in the solutions. Most helpfully, the practice problems in the book force you to become familiar with the format of the reference handbook, which will be provided to you during the exam.To be more specific, I found errors in the exam 1 solutions to problems 20 and 24, and in the exam 2 solutions for problems 22, 29, 35, 39, and 46. I hope that helps, and good luck preparing for the exam!

Even with the new computer-based testing format, the best preparation you can do for the FE is learning where pertinent equations and charts are in the NCEES Handbook. Practice problems are the best way to become familiar with the handbook, and this review manual is a great source for practice problems. The questions in this book are a little more difficult than the questions on the FE, so if you can do every problem in this book, you'll be well prepared for the real test.

Not sure how good this book is compared with others, but I used it as my only study material and passed the test. I found that the questions in here were a bit more difficult that tests on the actual exam. If you have no other study materials available to you, I would recommend getting this book. It outlines all of the sections of the test and provides you with plenty of examples.

Very disappointed. I was hoping for a solid review manual as there are not many options for the environmental specific exam. Briefly covers general equations without listing variables. I've been out of school a year and need a refresher on these subjects. The price is ridiculous for the length of the book. Also doesn't include math, economics, other general subjects.

This book would have been worth the money if it covered everything for the Environmental FE, but it does not. It only contains review material for the environmental portion of the regular Civil FE exam. A huge flaw in this study guide is that it does not reference which page in the NEECS manual to find which equation to use, or where to find a specific table for various problems. I would only recommend this book if it were $20 max.

This book uses formulas not found in the Reference Handbook and does not explain how they are derived or where they came from. I've found multiple small errors in the book. Like confusing the formula for ammonia and ammonium and other annoying things. Would not recommend this book for helpful environmental exam problems.

Overall this is a very helpful review book. This book and the general review book by the same publisher were my only study materials and I passed comfortably on my first attempt. I agree with another poster that the book does not adequately cover groundwater, risk assessment, and some of the waste water treatment processes.

Although the text is focused on those applying selective to moderately selective universities, it is certainly helpful as a guide to anyone facing the prospects of the admission process. It offers a realistic view of how the process woks and address many common misconceptions held by applicants and their parents. As a secondary teacher with over 20 yeas of experience, I was surprised at my own misconceptions. The text is easy to read with a great combination of humor and hard data. It is a wonderful take on the reality of modern college education. The book helps the reader to view education as an investment rather than an experience and provides some guidance in selecting the right university based on size, major, cost, selectivity and other considerations.This book helped allay many of my fears about both the difficulty of the application process and the cost associated with selective schools. I particularly appreciated the data regarding the net cost of schools when financial aid and other considerations are included. I also found the chapter focused on suggestions for students considering particular majors both helpful and realistic.This would be a worthwhile text for high school students, their parents, counselors , and teachers.

Andrew Garn is a native New Yorker who grew up oblivious to pigeons, despite being surrounded by them. After visiting a pigeon coop and a subsequent awakening in 2008, he has been photographing, rehabilitating and observing Columba Livia on a daily basis. He has exhibited photographs, video installations and sculptures of pigeons at A.M. Richard Fine Art in Brooklyn, NY and OK Harris. Documenting the entire spectrum of development, including full-grown pigeons, newborns, babies and “squeakers,” Garn has grown to love these birds.Mr. Garn is a fine art and editorial photographer whose work has been widely exhibited and  appeared in the pages of numerous magazines including the New York Times Magazine, Fortune, Forbes, Interview, Vogue, Vibe, Time, Newsweek, Der Spiegel, French Photo, Elle Décor, New York and Bloomberg LP. He is also the recipient of grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, the Graham Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the J.M. Kaplan Fund. As a lifelong San Franciscan, I have been around Pigeons my entire life. I’ve often wondered, why they always got such a bad rap, as they didn’t ask to come into the world in this form. I’d often seem them limping on the streets of the city, sometimes without a foot or with a broken wing from barbed wire or other pigeon traps. In my opinion, all they were trying to do is survive, like the rest of us. I know peoplethink they are dirty, but I think they are lovely and beautiful. Andrew Garn’s incredible book is an homage to these creatures; it is so beautifully photographed, it will take your breath away! There is a brief history, an anatomy study which I found fascinating and then the story of each of the birds he had photographed.There isn’t a story that I didn’t love. Pigeons are important. I never realized that until I started feeding them. And then I found a baby who I knew would not survive and brought him home. During that time, I read everything I could find about them....They are fantastic animals. Andrew's book will show you and tell you why. The photos are technically stunning, and show the exquisite beauty of these birds - that most people overlook. Why? Because they are so common? Well so are humans............The text is educational and enlightening and sometimes very sad. People and our man-made toxins are not always very kind to pigeons. There is a chapter about the incredibly dedicated people who fix them up and send them on their way, if possible; and about others who take them into their homes. I've been showing this book to everyone that I know, and most, if not all are quite surprised. They actually look at every single page. No flipping. Andrew has given us all a gift - he's shown us the beauty and the extraordinary, that exists right under our very noses. I don't know anyone who has seen the book who will walk past a pigeon without pausing for a moment in appreciation of an animal that they previously scorned or ignored.

A NYC resident myself, I never imagined I would one day think of pidgeons (or as we like to call them, rats with wings) as ‘magestic’ creatures. Turns out, they’re simply beautiful. As is this book. It’s always the book our guests grab first from our coffee table, and the reactions are great!

I always found pigeons to be incredibly beautiful and diverse in their color and markings. This extraordinary book captures their beauty in magnificent photos and gives a great history of their coexistence with the people and architecture of NY city. A great coffee table addition.
