Gerry Preece and Russel Wohlwerth do a great job explaining the key priorities for strategic sourcing and the complexity of implementing those priorities on fluid marketers’ expectations. The authors take us to a journey on which the solution of this dilemma depends on a few factors. First, accept the fact marketing is an investment even if it looks like an abstract painting at times; second, foster cross-functional partnerships to share the value of strategic sourcing in face of a liberal, highly creative and closed-doors organization and third, listen to consultants since they have more knowledge of the marketplace. Finally, I recommend this book to CEOs, CFOs and CMOs. It's a very nice book.

Gerry and Russel have done a very nice job in very simple terms to lay out the value proposition for CMOs and CPOs. This book however is a great starting read for anyone coming into the marketing procurement space for the first time.

Finally! Drawing on a wealth of experience and insight, and using clear and logical argument, Buying Less for Less explains what has been going so terribly wrong with most marketing procurement practices to date. Marketing procurement people must read this book, but marketers must read this, too, to fully understand the implications of what's happening to their efforts from an enlightened procurement perspective.Buy it now.

This book got me into computers and networking. I now work at a Big 4 technology company designing network architectures despite having majored in Psychology. I owe an incredible amount to this book and to this author. I literally thought one day, "I have no idea how the internet works". I looked for books, and I had two choices, either this book, or a $160 textbook like this Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach (7th Edition) that devotes hundreds of pages to different graph-based computer algorithms.This book appeals to two kinds of audiences: ** 1. If you don't know anything about the internet. This book is the best, most easy introduction to get. That's good, because it's also one of the only introductions that's not a textbook. You won't learn everything, because that's a lot of computer science algorithms, but you'll have the best overview from this book. The stories are good, but not excessive like in Malcolm Gladwell's books. ** 2. If you are under 35 and work in technology, no matter how technical your role. This is because so much of the technology you use now is virtual...software defined networking, virtual machines, virtual routers, VLANs, VPCs, AWS, etc. The internet is still a very very physical place, made up of hundreds of thousands of miles or wire, giant internet exchange centers (like the kind Facebook runs out of Nebraska that you'll never see), $80,000 routers made by Brocade that people like Verizon buy, etc. If you want to know how the internet works in the same way that you can open your car and know how everything works (as opposed to just buying a Tesla), get this book.P.S. If you are now pretty technical and want to move beyond the algorithms and other important-but-not-real-world kinds of learning, I suggest you check out Network Warrior: Everything You Need to Know That Wasn't on the CCNA Exam.

I do not agree with some reviewers claiming that the author lacks proper technical insight to write a worthy book about internetworking. It seems to me that it was a deliberate decision not to lean too much on tech details when describing how Internet works. Certainly I could not expect this title to describe inner workings of the TCP/IP suite, or how routers from different networks negotiate routes via BGP. The author, starting with a realization that most people don't notice the existence of networks (Internet is seen only by the content pulled from servers), tried to describe their physicality. Internet is not a nondescript "cloud", it happens to consist of cables. Lots and lots of cables.I like Andrew Blum's remarks on how Internet "tubes" strongly depend on world's geography and existing infrastructure. Cables are placed along roads, the largest Internet exchanges are placed in cities which already were commerce hubs, undersea cables originate and end near ports. Data centers are built in cold places with abundance of cheap electricity. The Internet, commonly perceived as ubiquitous, at its very core (the backbone network) is running over a not-that-large set of routes, governed by a handful of companies. Also appealing to me were the attempts to capture the atmosphere (the nature) of visited buildings and people; probably a bit stereotypical (all network engineers wear hoodies), but enjoyable.The author's penchant for expressing philosophical remarks (mainly on how virtual relates to physical) was annoying a few times but, OTOH, they make it a book which tries not only to convey Internet's architecture, but also its idea. A pleasant read, IMHO even for die-hard network specialists.

I'm an engineer and have always been interested in networking technology. When I heard an interview with author Andrew Blum regarding this book, on NPR, I immediately decided to buy and read it. The book is interesting and insightful in parts, but I found it a bit superficial and was somewhat disappointed with the superficiality of most of it. I guess I was expecting something more like Malcolm Gladwell's quantitative analyses of many of the topics that he writes about, but instead this book is mostly a travelogue of the author going around and just looking at various internet exchange points and data centers.There were two chapters that were really great: one concerned Andrew Blum's meeting with Leonard Kleinrock, who in some ways "founded" the Internet when he established the first inter-network link in the original Arpanet. Hearing one of the Internet's founders explain all the things he did and didn't envision for it was fascinating.The most interesting chapter is the second-to-last, in which the author observes the laying of an undersea fiber-optic cable in Portugal, which will connect it to the Azores and Africa. The nitty-gritty details of forming the physical interconnections between distant points are described here in an up-close way that I found far more satisfying than the detached, tourist-like point of view that the author takes in most of the book.

The front cover of the bible is a design of Proverbs 3:5-6 I personally like it but if you want the look of a more traditional bible you won't like it.PROS: hardcover & sturdy, nice journaling space on the side to write quick notes, adds more to the reading experience with featured drawings of verses, one column text meaning it's not too much on one page and the font is big enough to read without hurting your eyes. It also comes with a cute satin bookmark that is attached to it so you can keep your place!CONS: there is only one con (hence only one start deducted) I have is the pages are still thin like every other bible. So be careful because yes they will/may rip if you're turning too fast. Yes markers and highlighters will bleed through. I used a special non-bleed through bible highlighter and it still showed through.

I first bought the Audible version, only to find they didn't separate the chapters into tracks. Since faith does indeed come from hearing the Word of God (as well as reading it!), I tried again, and bought the Complete NIV Audio Bible on MP3 CD (ISBN-10: 1444786407) here on Amazon, and they DID divide each chapter into a separate track. Also, each chapter starts with the name of the book, then the chapter number, so if you want to randomize chapters, you'll know what book each one is from. I was looking for a Bible that I could take with me when I travel but it also had to have the words of Jesus in red.I couldn't have asked for a more perfect Bible.

I purchased this NIV Bible through a recommendation that this version was easier to understand. I was brought up Catholic, but I am in no way a devout follower. Lately I have wanted to read the Bible in its entirety to better understand Christianity and it’s basis so that I may strengthen my faith. I can honestly say that this is the most beautiful Bible I have ever held. The drawings are lovely and inspiring, and the translation is stunningly fluid. I appreciate the space to write, and the thinness of the pages doesn’t bother me. Although it’s not “Catholic approved”, I have no problem reading this Bible if it makes me want to learn and grow. I just started and already I don’t want to put it down. It reads like a favorite story. Thank you.

Such a beautiful Bible. There are several full page illustrations, as well as in the margins. Some of the illustrations have very small pieces to them. I would think colored pencils would be best for coloring in this Bible.

Stunning bible! I waited months for it to be fulfilled and I'd wait longer if I had to. I love the feel of the textured cover, the colors are perfectly muted and Iam so excited to explore every book's beautiful illustrations. Note the tabs were purchased separately off Etsy but match perfectly.

Received my copy this afternoon (Woo, 2-day Prime shipping!) and I already love it! The illustrations are so beautiful and really do bring the words to life. I was originally searching for a Bible that had wide margins for note-taking only, but I stumbled upon these and fell in love! I like that the pages are bright white and ever so slightly thicker than traditional "onion skin" Bible pages. I have used my Prismacolor pencils to color a page and they work beautifully! They show up nice and bright and don't show through on the other side. Also, the book itself is very attractive without the dust jacket! It features a verse from Psalms on the front and title is only printed on the side, which I prefer; I didn't like that some of the other available creative Bibles had "My Coloring Bible" emblazoned across the front. Makes you feel kinda silly. :PAll-in-all, this is a great purchase! The price is unbelievable and the product is beautiful. However, be warned that the print in this Bible is VERY SMALL and some of the illustrations have incredibly small lettering that may be difficult to color.

The BEST read audio Bible, in my opinion. David Suchet uses small variations in tone and volume to capture the feeling of the text. He reads beautifully. For American speakers, his British accent might not appeal. I am also an American speaker, but find it wonderful. There is no music, no drama, just beautiful and meaningful reading.David Suchet became a believer in Jesus at age 40, and has said this project is his legacy to the glory of God. Well done, David. Well done! Even Hercule Poirot could not find fault with this presentation.

This is not the book I expected. Though, honestly, I don't quite know what I expected.My favorite part about the 33 1/3 series is that each one is so drastically different that it's hard to get a "bead" on how the series will work.This one focuses quite a bit on the general context and history of the artist J Dilla, aka Jay Dee. That, of course, wraps up much of it with the history of modern hip hop, which was perfect for me. (I recently finished HIP-HOP EVOLUTION on Netflix and wished it had carried into more modern times. This book seemed to pick up, in many ways, where that series left off.)I didn't know much about Dilla or this album. I'd tracked it down and listened to it a few times prior to reading this book, but nothing struck me as "amazing" or particularly noteworthy. However, Fergusson provided the appropriate context and discussed the life of this artist, which truly gave weight to the album itself.That being said, there isn't much about the album itself. There are a few references here, and one of the last chapters does a nice job analyzing the mood and style of the various tracks in comparison with Dilla's life. So, if there is one complaint, it's that it really is more about the artist than the album. Those looking for a huge focus on DONUTS will be disappointed.For those like me, though, who didn't know much about J Dilla--or, honestly, much about hip-hop's recent history--this makes for a great read about an extremely talented artist whose life was cut too short.

This book was thoroughly researched and super informative. The writer's admiration, appreciation and respect for Dilla and his work really shows throughout the whole book. He took great care in doing Dilla's story justice, considering the god-like level of respect his name and music rightfully holdin hip hop h eads everywhere. This book is written in a way that's sure to keep you flipping pages, and will make you want to compulsively bump Donuts over and over!I've been a big Jay Dee/Dilla fan for years before picking up this book, but always preferred his "fan-tas-tic" work with Slum Village and Jay Dee's Welcome 2 Detroit album to the Donuts' seemingly more minimalist/unfinished instrumental "beat tape" vibe, of which I've heard countless surface-level-similar releases from other producers over the years in the wake of Donuts' massive influence (also written about in this book).However, diving into this book compelled me to listen to Donuts again on wax non-stop during the course of reading it, lasting well into the following weeks and months. The absorbed information contained herein instilled in me a newfound understanding of the album and an appreciation for each piece within the whole, in such a way that I now experience a deeply resonating familiarity with every sample and minuscule melodic phrase, every twist and turn the album takes on it's masterfully crafted journey. Reading about Donuts helped shine a light on subtle details I would've otherwise overlooked. Now I get what all the other Donut-heads have been feeling this whole time.It's also impossible to not be inspired by the detailed description of Jay Dee's compulsive, beat-making-above-everything-and-anything-else process of creating music he developed early on and quickly perfected on his own, in the face of a distraction-laden environment. Even more inspiring was how he continued this dedicated work ethic while experiencing the impossibly difficult circumstances of his illness. Through interviews with those who were there at his side, the book tells of how J Dilla crafted Donuts through sheer determination and willpower while suffering increasingly repressive physical debilitation, yet was still able to put the final touches on the record just before he passed on. This depiction unexpectedly turns what would otherwise have been your average 33 1/3 book about a classic album into a powerful story of human triumph.One thing I remember occasionally feeling uncertain of, however, was the insinuation on the part of the author (based on quotes from musicians who knew and loved Dilla [i.e. Questlove]) that Dilla deliberately instilled every track on Donuts with "secret messages" of various degrees of elaborate significance, suggesting that James Yancey be communicating to listeners from beyond through purposely intended hidden messages, even implying there are many which have yet to be detected.There's nothing necessarily wrong or problematic with making these assumptions- I actually think it's quite beautiful that Dilla's loved ones, friends and family, can derive a sense of his presence and spirit through messages they hear speaking to them through his music. I by no means am criticizing them; or anyone's personal interpretation for that matter.But for a writer to assert as fact to fans and listeners that there was a direct intent behind these hidden messages, without being able to check with the man who made it, seemed like a stretch. These pseudo-superstitious theories were entertaining to read about and interesting to ponder, but I had to take them in with a grain of salt considering the well-known fact that music/art is notoriously overanalyzed. Rap/hip hop in particular is plagued with critics and fans alike supplanting their half-baked interpretations in the mouths of the artist's.This was, however, my only complaint I could recall. Everything else was well researched with the highest regard for an incredibly unique, unfathomably influential artist and his final document.Peace/LB

I've been a 33 1/3 fan from the very first Velvet underground and Nico book i snagged from the library, and i've been collecting them ever since, simply b/c I love music and writings about the "classics". I was thrilled when i found out that Donuts will be getting the treatment that many great albums have gotten before. Donuts is one of my desert islands records, an album that continues to captivate and mystify me with its quirks and deeply melancholic and bluesy approach and will be with me ti'll my dying days.Donuts has continued to gain popularity and has continued to amass a cult following as people slowly recognize the genius behind this record, and the genius of this record.To my pleasant surprise, this book offered a lot of previously unknown insight and interpretation on an artist whose luminous career and life where cut horribly short. As a MAJOR Dilla fun, I would highly recommend this book for its off-kilter and unexpected insights into the life and music of a low-key legend, that certainly left us too soon, and this being his last album, will forever leave us wondering what could have been next.

Great book. It gave me insight on my favorite producer, and gave me knowledge on what he was going through and how dedicated he was when working on his craft.

This Book Is Informative Of Dilla's Producing Process and Chronicles How He Got His Demo To Tip.It Is Somewhat Depressing As Well As The Author Contemplates Dilla's Mindstate In His Final Days.Good Reading Over All. Very Well Written.

I ordered this as a part of a lesson plan for a class. Very informational and colorful.

Sonia Sotomayor is a Supreme Court Justice. She is the third woman and first Hispanic person to serve in that office. She faced obstacles on her way to becoming the woman she is today, but she was smart and figured out how to find help along the way.Miss K spent quite a bit of time reading this book over and over. I read it once she was finally finished with it. The thing I like about it is that it talks about Sonia's achievements, her hard work, and the way she overcame her feelings of insecurity and shyness to reach her dreams. Her life wasn't a bed of roses, but through her hard work, she was able to rise to the top of her class in school and attend Princeton university.This is one of many fantastic diverse books coming onto the market. It's about a strong woman that broke many glass ceilings. She is a great example to my own girls. I love the message that if you work hard toward your goals, you can make them come true.The other thing I like about this book is that it teaches kids about the justice system and about our government. There are info boxes and vocabulary words sprinkled throughout the book. it's a good read for a kid that enjoys nonfiction, or anyone interested in learning more about judges and government.

This was not only a very interesting story about Sonia Sotomayer but was an outstanding teaching tool in explaining words and verbal terms. It is filled with a vast amount of photos and illustrations with captions on each, explaining that particular picture. It will assist in widely developing a child's understanding and vocabulary. To further aid in education, it has a quiz at the end of the forty three pages of insight then an additional glossary at the end.This is highly recommended for ages 5 to 10 years.*I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given.

Sonia admired the Perry Mason show growing up.Sonia grew up in the Bronx and her parents were from Puerto Rico. In the summer her family enjoyed picnics and the Yankees. She graduated from Princeton University and attended Yale. Her career took her many places and she met many interesting people including President Obama.Kids, parents and teachers can learn so much about Sonia Sotomayor and how she became the incredible woman that she is today.

I love these books. I'm constantly looking for interesting nonfiction texts for my classroom. These are perfect for my third graders and they can not get enough of them. Kids are constantly coming up to me and telling me new facts that they have learned from the books in this series. Great for science, reading, social studies, history, vocabulary, etc. Highly recommended!

I enjoy historical fiction and romance. These characters lack depth, and the setting is less than historically accurate. Disappointing

Admired the courage to withstand the towns sentiments. Got to know the girls and how they changed their lives.

I enjoy clean western historical romances that highlight the plight of those who set out to settle the West - and these fit exactly into that category.The first young woman, Carrie, starts the series. She's a mail order bride headed to California that loses her nerve when she gets to Kansas. She decides to stay and work as a waiter-girl at Stewart House. She makes friends there and several of these friends become the brides of the books that follow.Beverly is Carrie’s sister and took her place at the restaurant. Stewart House is using frozen steaks instead of local meat, which she can't understand. She decides to get involved and makes big changes!Annie has worked at Stewart House for a year. She initially came to meet her fiancee halfway, but he never showed up. She loves Stewart House. A farmhand comes in and they realize he was the no-show fiancee.Rita supervises the staff at Stewart House and has been there the longest. She wants marriage and a family and decides a mail-order husband is the best way to get them.Tessa is a waiter girl who hear about the newspaper from sisters Wendy and Emmile. Tessa responds to an ad and writes to a local man. Tessa wants love and marriage - and to keep her job as well.Emmie doesn't want marriage, she'd actually love to open a library. Her friend catches her glancing at the newspaper and decides to do some matchmaking for her. She gets an unexpected letter from Mr. Cline, the lawyer in town, and writes back to him.I liked these stories, all of them. Because they're short, the stories developed more quickly than seemed reasonable, though I'd have loved the author to have fleshed them out a little more so the romances would've developed a little more naturally. (Most of these women were engaged and married as quickly as their second meeting, which was pretty unbelievable to me.) If she'd done that, I'd be giving these 5 stars all the way around.* I received a copy of this book for review consideration.

I received this book set for review consideration, this is my honest and voluntary review.Each of these women in this six book boxed set are strong, caring and fall in love.Each faces challenges that they must overcome to find themselves and the love ofTheir lives.It would be so easy to just tell you everything about each book however that wouldactually cheat you out of the pleasure of finding out everything they each go through.I think you would enjoy that much more than being told what to except.What I can do for you is to highly recommend this book set to you. I know you willenjoy it as much as I have. So do yourself a favor and get this book set.

I received this Arc for review consideration. This is the stories of some innovated, courageous young woman who want to make a life for themselves at a restaurant that has the best steaks around. The train brings customers from all over to try their steaks. The ingenuity and perseverance of these young woman is unshakable and they might just find love along the way. This is such a wonderful series. If you like to read stories with heart and Happy endings and just pure fun to read this is the one for you.

I thoroughly enjoyed these stories. Charity Phillips seemed to write mail order brides with a fresher voice. I was getting tired of reading mail order brides, but these stories really held my interest. I did enjoy how these brides knew each other. Plus it was nice to have the now married ladies in later stories. They are all good stories. The brides each have their own personalities. Freshly written stories that hold your interest. I highly recommend this book.

I enjoyed some of these stories more than others. Loved how independent some of the women were, and their struggles on life. Should they be independent, at a time when it was looked down upon for a woman to stand on her own, or should they follow their heart and marry? Even if its what they were fighting against the whole time? Just the message of strength and courage given in these pages, its inspiring! I received an ARC of this book.

Working at the elite Stewart House was a goal for some.They made close friendships, some closer than others. Some stories more interesting than others. They had interesting rules. I received this ARC copy for review consideration.
