The last Chamber by Ernest Dempsey, is the last book of The Lost Chambers Trilogy and as far as I am concerned it is the best so far. In book two, The Cleric's Vault, Dempsey, admits he was experimenting with some different writing styles, trying to find his own groove as a writer. While I enjoyed the story , I found his experimentation distracting . It clearly did not work for me. I am pleased that in The Last Chamber, he has finally settled into his own style. He has found a way to juggle several different groups of characters, in different locales, without losing the reader (and himself) in the process! I believe part of the thrill and mystery of the trilogy is that besides the main heroes,Sean Wyatt and his longtime pal Tommy Shultz, there are at least two if not three other organizations hot on the trail of the treasure of The Lost Chambers at any one time. And the reader is kept guessing who are "the Good Guys" and who are "the Villians". The book is full of exciting plot twists, across many continents, involving some very different theories about some familiar world mysteries such as the Pyramids at Giza and Easter Island. Keep it all straight and flowing without a hitch, is a gift that until I read The Lost Chambers Trilogy, I thought belong to Clive Cussler or Tom Clancy. But Ernest Dempsey has earned the right to stand with the greats with this book, The Last Chamber. If you love history and have wondered about some of the great mysteries of the world, I know you will love The Last Chamber and the rest of the Lost Chamber Trilogy. I think there is a little bit of Indiana Jones in all of us and Ernest Dempsey touches that ,allowing us to explore the world from the comfort of our favorite reading chair! It has been said that you always save the best for last and with The Last Chamber, Dempsey really did!
THE LAST CHAMBER by Ernest Dempsey (7/10/15)This is the final book in The Lost Chambers Trilogy featuring Sean Wyatt and his nemesis, The Prophet (aka Alexander Lindsay). Both teams are seeking the secret of the Tree of Life found in the Garden of Eden. After a brief prologue which seems superfluous to the story, the real narrative opens, literally, with a bang -- a bombing in Cairo leaves Sean, his partner Tommy and their associate Adriana injured. Tommy's injuries require him to be airlifted out of Egypt and the story. Sean and Adriana continue on their quest with an English archeologist named Firth and a mysterious band of guardians who claim to be descendants of Noah sent to protect the secret of the Tree of Life. They are closely followed by Lindsey, his head enforcer, Will Hastings (who also appears in all the trilogy books) and their henchmen. The action between Sean's team and Lindsey's starts in Egypt and runs through Turkey to the final showdown in a cave in Armenia, leaving behind a trail of destruction and dead bodies. At the same time, back in Atlanta, Sean's friend Joe and his wife are pulled into a subplot involving a deadly virus disguised as a flu vaccine created by Lindsey as part of his evil plan. The final face-off takes place in a cave near the town of Ararat in Armenia with only five still standing: Sean, Adriana and Dr. Firth facing Lindsey and Will Hastings. The Tree is found, but the final twist really takes the reader by surprise. While the Prologue is unnecessary, I particularly liked the way the author cut the action between the Middle East and the subplot in Atlanta. Mr. Dempsey has neatly tied up all the loose ends and left the reader wondering what's next for our intrepid hero. All in all, a wonderful trilogy that lights up fiction with enough historical fact to keep me thinking, "Is it possible?" Very well done!
After leading the reader through an exhaustive search and drama to find the last chamber, it feels as if Dempsey quickly changes the focus from the "treasure" to the what the characters are doing after the expedition. During the story, Jabez and his followers are tasked with protection of the treasure, but when it's actually found, we don't know if Jabez & his men sealed the chamber or sold the gold, or what? Just seemed like a letdown after the whole search.
Ernest Dempsey wrote a really enjoyable and Exciting series. I had fun reading each book. However, the thing that I found appalling was the serious lack of good editing in each book. I came across words that were incorrect. I found the wrong words in places. And I even found a spot where a capital letter S was seemingly dropped in the middle of a sentence for no reason. Honestly, it was like no one actually proofread these books, but simply ran them through spellcheck, which missed many errors. Maybe it is pretty if me to point this out, but I feel that if an author expands his/her talents to create a book, an editor ought to employ his/her talents in proofreading that creation in a likewise fashion.
Although I'm not fond of the typos nor the wording issues in this book the story is worth the effort to read it. The twists and turns within the story making it's way to the conclusion makes it a satisfying read. Good journey to the end of this story. Great characters in Sean, Tommy, Emily, Mac, Helen, and Adrianna. Can't wait to see these characters develope more in stories to come.
Mr. Dempsey is a wonderful storyteller. This trilogy kept my attention beginning with the first few pages of book one. Growing up northwest Georgia, I could identify with a lot of the places he mentioned. These books are action packed and well written. He developed his characters well. As you finish one book, you can't wait to start the next one. Enjoy!
